Hi Bonita I made the turkey neck soup and it was so tasty but the turkey neck was so tough what do you think i did wrong I followed your recipe to a T ?
I'm going to shove this video in my husband's face and show him this is how it's made , he makes some ugly G-D turkey neck soup that resembles meat paste ! AND HE'S FROM THE WEST COAST OF NEWFOUNDLAND ! This is going to knock some knowledge into his arse 🤣😅😂
Growing up my mother would always set aside the turkey neck, heart, gizzard and liver for me because they were my favourite part. Never cared much for the actual turkey though lol.
Bonita, I grew up in the 40's and 50's In Kingston Ontario and brought up on a farm by my Grandparents, So happy that happened to me. Grandmother was a great cook like you and back then it was rare to buy things from stores ready to eat so most people cooked at home. I often watched my Grandmother cook and learned lots of things that I have used in my older years. I live alone now for 10 years and cook 99% of my meals.
How did you know I was gonna need this today? I just put the turkey in the oven and now need to figure out what to do with the neck and bag of somethings that apparently all turkeys have growing inside of them. Huh! Who knew. Okay, off to watch your video.
Thank you so much for sharing this recipe! I will be trying to cook this soon!
I don’t think I can find salt beef, but I can generally find beef chunks for soup. I can get organic chicken bone broth. I can’t do the Jiggs dinner broth since that has pork in it, but I can get a broth to be rich and satisfying with adding some cabbage to my soup along with the other vegetables.
I am surprised you didn’t add whole Bay Leaf. That can make a big difference in the overall flavor to me; its another way to make the broth richer. I might also add fresh Rosemary along with the fresh Thyme.
Bless you Bonita! You have helped to fuel my interest in cooking again after my husband passed away a few years ago. I really appreciate your videos!
Looks delicious, thank you for the recipe. I will definitely try it (without the beef tho) ☺️. It's a great thing to use up a part of the turkey that may be mostly wasted, and the butcher would have plenty around the holidays.
On a rainy, cool day in the Midwest, this sounds appealing. Wouldn't have thought to add the beef, though in my definition, those are "chili-sized" pieces…. hmmm? turnips hard to come by in these parts….

Is salt beef the same as corned beef?
Does this recipe mean that those of us with "turkey necks" are in danger? 😀
I do believe I've never had a turkey neck or salt beef. Now I have a good reason to try them both. Thanks.
