Useful review! Thanks. I've been using a Zojirushi 3-cup (2 cups brown) NP-GBC05 rice cooker for many years. The induction heating system gives it precise enough control to offer a GABA Activation setting for brown rice. It takes 3 1/2 hours to cook one batch, but getting the additional 150% bioavailability of an essential amino acid is worth the time. I use it for nothing but rice. I have an Instant Pot and a Ninja Air Fryer for most other things.

The video clearly showed that a LOT of water as under the lid and fell back into the rice on the Instant Pot. I am sure that was a major factor in how the rice overall came out. Either you added too much water, per the instructions or on your own or you allowed it to drip back into the rice causing it less than appetizing nature.

However as others have said, the instructions on something as delicate as rice are not always correct. And an Instant Pot does many tasks, not just one or two like a regular rice cooker. It is also much cheaper than an expensive multi functional $300 Japanese rice cooker.

It should also be known that different rice need different water and cooking times. Just because it is "white" there are different varieties. However I am not defending the IP either. They should make a better product with better instructions.

Some advice. If the rice comes out mushy, you added too much water. I've been cooking rice in a pressure cooker since college and it's been perfect. I also use the 1 to 1 ratio and at some point started being able to eyeball it or just know at what level per rice looks right. It's all in the cook, not the tool.

I have this exact rice cooker and hate it. Leaves a crust on bottom and have added more cups to it and still same problem. Not sure how u got yours to turn out so.well on that setting because for me it's a dud and will return tomorrow I think. Will try your method 1 last time and see what happens but am very doubtful

I am Japanese who eats white rice almost everyday.
I bought instant pot to cook rice because Japanese rice cooker ( with iIH and presseure Model ) is over 300$
So I tried instant pot ( to cook rice with pressure )
But yes instant pot made good rice .BUT!
    I think you right!

Don't kid yourself the sticky jasmine rice IS the intended way to serve rice. The rice manufacturing company directions on the box are engineered so you have to buy more rice than you need on a more frrequent basis, thats the texture at any legit asian restaurant.

I don't use the rice button on my Instant Pot. Depending what rice I do 3 minutes and then 10-12 minute natural release. Depends on the brand of rice you are using.

I ended up buying a rice cooker, after years of my wife saying "we don't need one – my rice turns out good" — yah, well not as good as what the rice cooker did. 🙂 I ended up buying this one from Amazon and LOVE IT (https://amzn.to/2AXMWoK). I made a basic Indian style rice pilaf in it and it was super. As it was my first time I didn't use chicken in it, but will do so next time. Also when I made the rice, I did what my wife always does – wash, wash and wash until it is relatively clear. I also cook the rice in either beef or chicken stock (just using those OXO cubes) depending on what type of dish I will make. So if a beef pilaf then beef stock, if chicken or vegetable pilaf then chicken stock. One of the Indian grocers that I go to has a pilaf stock — but essentially it is vegetable stock.

This is my first rice cooker>>>t.co/LpowcWAKPw I had heard a lot about Zujiroshi and Tiger. After a lot of research I decided that the Zujiroshi sounded like a better product for me. I am so glad I bought this! The rice is always perfect, I also love the keep warm feature, the steamer, and that you can also make cakes, etc! A must for anyone who frequently eats rice!
