Great for food shortages today using real flour as well. Lots of videos showing how. Look for Steve, artisan breads easy. Get some of the best recipes if you can use wheat.

My Chinese grandmother grew up in a very poor part of the fujian. She moved to the US in the 1970's and used to make something very similar to this for me when I was a kid. She says she used to do this with the burnt, leftover rice when she was younger.
Chinese use glutinous rice flour and warm water to name a dough then steamed , we know these a bao buns or chinese dumpling
