Good video. May I say that I believe the reason you’ve had jars crack in the canner is likely due to the jars being placed into boiling water. The canner water should be hot, but not actively boiling. Jars don’t take to temperature changes too well, cracking as a result. The reason they don’t crack when you pour hot liquid into them (which also should not be boiling) is because the jars are heated first. This is also why jars need to be placed on a towel or wood cutting board in a draft free place when they come out of the canner.

Joe, I love your videos! I would like to mention that, according to Ball, their jars are not meant for dry heat and putting them in the oven can weaken the glass. Canned potatoes sure do look good sitting on the shelf!

hi and thanks for your vid. I love to prep ahead and this was ideal for me. You should put links where to get a canner and the jars etc – Paul from the UK. Don't complain about the snow – we only get it where I live about once every five years if lucky!

Why put your canning jars in boiling water in the canner and run risk of cracking them let it come up to a boil inside the canner instead.. the safe way. Putting them in boiling water is bad advice
