Hello Ladies! Love your channel. Sharla, idea for a quick video: make a double batch of the lemon pepper chicken and the rosemary potatoes and cook them BOTH. Then show us how you would turn it into a soup. We could cook ONCE but make TWO meals. I would need the video lol because I am not a cook.
How about some meals for one or separating meals into four. I end up eating the same thing for four days to eat it up. Also low carb, low fat, no sugar. Sounds boring, doesn’t it?
When I was in my early 20's I was living on a sole parent payment. To stretch my food budget, I began by cooking a chicken. for a roast meal. I would remove the remaining meat and make a stock with the bones. I would then make some croquets with some of the meat and use the rest for sandwiches and /or salads. With the stock I would start making my "Soup for a week". I would begin with diced onion and grate any vegetables suitable for grating, including the broccoli stalk. I would then season to taste. The next nigt, to the leftover soup, I would add water, and more seasoning as well as freeze vegetables such as peas, corn, edemame bean and short cut green beans, to stretch the soup. The following night I would add leafy green vegetables shredded, and more water and season to taste. Each night I would add water and seasoning if required. The fourth night I would add small pieces of broccoli, cauliflower and shredded cabbage. Night five I added a tin of condensed tomato soup. Night six would be a bean mix, such as kidney, cannellini and gabanzo beans. On night seven I would add sausages (LInks) and thicken it to make a stew. We would eat it with mashed potato. If there was any left, we would eat it the next night with toast. The secret to ensuring it was safe to eat for the week was boiling the soup each night for at least half an hour before eating. I usually cooked it for at least an hour. .
I am so glad that I joined the freezer meals club. I’m on my own and found it hard to start cooking for one after many years of cooking for a family. I never knew what to make, and dislike the grind of having to make something every night. I’m saving money now because I’m more confident stocking up on sales- I know food won’t be wasted. And I’m saving money just eating at home out of my own freezer! I love it😀
One way to save on freezer meals that I do every week. Base your freezers meals you make each week on the meat you find on sale and on mark down. Leftovers for me turn in to lunch the next day or I like you add other ingredients I have on hand to them and make another meal with them. I found hamburger on sale this week and bought some. Tonight I made a meatloaf out of some of it. The left overs from it will probably be both lunch and dinner tomorrow. Also one thing I have started when fix a meal that is not one of your freezer meals in the freezer double it. Than you will have one for that night and one for a freezer meal. It is quick way to add to your freezer meals and doesn;t take any extra time to make it by itself for a freezer meal.
Yes, take advantage of the sales. I would have bought them out of the beef strips! Love your videos. Love your recipes. Thank you. P.S. For those who wonder if the "Freezer Meals 101 Club" is worth it, YES! I am a family of 2 and I can use the recipes in the club and cut them down if I want too. I did that with the Pasta Sauce recipe due to the ingredients I had and it was super easy with the recipe. Thank you, ladies!
Sometimes we make a meal that doesn't work so well and none of us like, that's when having chooks is great. The chooks get a treat and turn them into eggs for us. We also don't waste any kitchen scraps! They go straight to the chooks. Keeping chooks is pretty common in Australia, though.
I have learned so much from you girls. You are my go to freezer meal girls. Made a couple more French toast casseroles and two bags of Breakfast Burritos. We had over a pound of turkey sausage left over so we dated it and put it in the fridge to use during the week. My son said they were to die for and kept sneaking more bites. Lol. We have learned to become very frugal. We freeze any left overs including veggies. Thank you!
Thank you for all the great tips and freezer meal ideas! I am making your Tuna Casserole recipe tonight. I will eat one serving and freeze in those little mini pans the rest as I only need meals for 1 or 2 people. I was raised on it because it was so inexpensive to make for my mom who was raising me on her own while working full-time as a Hairdresser. I am just starting freezer meals again so glad to have Freezer Meals 101 as a resource! 😃

I use half the taco meat and add red kidney beans that I mash up. My kids can't tell the difference.
