Great video! Iā€™ve been on a similar journey over the years myself, trying to find a balance where I feel my best and also feel comfortable with my body. (Been following ā€œKetogenic Girlā€ Vanessa since the beginning, too!) Still a work in progress for meā€¦and I havenā€™t been tracking macros per se for 2-3 years, since Iā€™m pretty happy with my weightā€”but I definitely eat very low-to-no carb, prioritize protein, and also eat quite a bit of fat.

You are crushing it! I am so happy to see you figuring out the protein thing. I had such a similar experience as you have and I am totally happy eating low carb with adequate protein. Also carbs like you said do influence ketones the most and then protein. Fat doesnā€™t really matter as long as you have body fat to burn. Looking forward to seeing how it goes for you! And thank you for recommending the Optimal Protein podcast episode with Linda ! It was so good!! šŸ¤šŸ¤

I'm 47 and am experiencing The Change. My mom experienced menopause early, and I'm enjoying (ahem) this, as well. So my doc has alluded to, and I feel I'm noticing that prioritizing protein over fat is important for me. I'm still in the process of figuring out how this looks day to day. Thanks so much for sharing your journey, thoughts, and experiences!

One thing that helped me is doing a small walk after each protein meal, like Kelly Hogan talks about. For the first time, even after each meal being over 75 grams of protein, my ketones went to 1.7..3 hours after eating with blood sugar 77. Walking really made a huge difference!

Iā€™m currently doing bbbe for 30 days first time. I love it but missing chicken a lot. Will follow you on higher protein after. Want to see if my weight will start moving again as Iā€™m stalled for a while. Thank you for a good advice ā¤

Have you thought about using exogenous ketones to get that ketone boost without having to limit protein too much? I know that you use an MCT powder in your coffee that can help as well. Just to keep the ketone burning machinery in your body working, particularly in the brain. Maybe just do it a few days per week. Everybody is different and we have to find out what works best for each

I have been eating this way for almost 6 years and at 56, I do need the higher protein. I canā€™t digest too much fat, I just eat higher fat proteins and it seems to work. I wish I could get higher ketones for my brain, but some is better than none, and any is better than killing my brain with sugar

Iā€™m finding at my age, 67, I definitely need to prioritize protein. I feel more energetic and satiated with protein and tired and sluggish with higher fat. I would love to see higher protein meals, ideas and recipes. Thank you for bringing us such great content!

I may get some hate but this is how Iā€™ve achieved a high ketone levels when Iā€™m in a ketone slumpā€¦.. I eat a whole pint on rebel (usually peanut butter caramel chip) after a light dinner. So I guess the extreme fat helps me personally and no I donā€™t do this all the timešŸ˜‚šŸ¤£

I almost purchased a continuous ketone monitor at keto con but after I got all the technical info on it I decided against it.

For those who have the option of a flexible spending account some plan allow CGMā€™s. I used mine for a 6 month CGM program. It was worth every penny šŸ˜‰

I ran into the same situation. I can eat fat all day and never feel full. I do best at 35-40% protein (225-250g) (male 38yo very active).

Iā€™ve tried going higher protein than 40% but ran into feeling low energy. I will throw in high fat or ā€œunlimited calorie carnivoreā€ days as a treat or when my body needs it. But my daily diet is usually a 60/40 split which most nutritionists would still classify as ā€œhigh fatā€.

Glad you did the N of 1 experiments and found a plan that works best for you!
