My grandmother made ragi pittu in Jaffna when I was a kid using coconut flakes and jaggery in a bamboo pittu vessel in the 70's all in one step. It was soft when warm but got dry when it was not hot. My mother mixed milk and gave it to me later. No refrigerator. So everything was cooked and eaten the same day. Brings back memories. She used wood stove.
