    Please don't use corn flour in a stew. There is a much easier way to do this that doesn't make your stew taste like glue.
    Just add a tbsp or two of flour to the pot when browning the beef at the beginning, and mix it well. This will create a rich roux that will have all the time it needs to cook while the stew simmers and will result in a much smooth, richer, and higher quality gravy.

    The first time I used cornstarch to thicken something, I didn't realize how quickly you had to move the cornstarch slurry into what you were cooking, or how little you should mix the slurry before dumping it, and I ended up with a non-newtonian fluid that wouldn't break apart. Made some interesting noodle-esqe blobs though.
