Spaghetti, sloppy Joes, beans & wieners & sauerkraut, sausage stew, hamburger casserole, meatloaf are all good one pan/pot meals. I use sausage as a substitute for hamburger – I like it better anyway. And remember, biscuits, cornbread, or bread slices add to these to make you and your kids FULL. Breakfasts of oatmeal mixed with apple sauce or a little syrup or brown sugar warms your kids and fills them at the same time. I've also been buying lots of ready made pancake mix, since it contains everything with not a lot of ingredients. If you are buying powdered milk, mix it half and half with 4% milk, and as long as it is kept cold and shaken before pouring, your kids probably won't know. I raised part of my family in the Carter years, so I have some experience with this inflation craziness.

Just an FYI to anyone interested, Kroger has amazing meat markdowns on Mondays. At least they do in my area of south carolina. It's best to go earlier in the morning. Last Monday I spent $95 on $190 worth of meat. It was a huge help. One of the best deals was the waygu beef 1lb packs for $2.75 each.

YEESSS! Aged steak is the best! As a kid, my family would buy fresh meat from the bargain bin to can or freeze to extend it's "shelf life". Lately I've been cutting my pork steaks from a loin to 4oz portions instead of 6oz like my hubby would prefer. Simply pounding it out and coating it with a little S&P and flour or bread crumbs to fry it up. No one can tell the difference. For my daycare kids, I've been cooking with ground turkey instead of ground beef and they haven't noticed.

I have peaches in the canner as I’m watching this, salsa was yesterday, diced tomatoes and another batch of tomato sauce is tomorrow. But I really need to plan meals out better and this video is a perfect and timely reminder. Thanks Tasha!

One of my big tips for fruit going bad or even some vegetables is to run it through the food processor real quick. Make up a quick bread easy recipe for some muffins and serve those for a snack or breakfast

I got a wonderful surprise yesterday!

I’ve been slowly talking to my husband about prepping because I wasn’t sure how he’d take it.

I’ve been prepping behind the scenes.

Anyway, he’s has started listening and actually bought the generator I have been talking to him about! I’m so excited!!! Said he had a surprise in the car for me when he got home from work.

    ❤️🙂❤️

Thanks Tasha. Things here (Scotland) are getting difficult. We will be facing winter without heating. I have been doing as much as i can to try to prepare now to take the edge off the hard times that are coming. One thing i have discovered is that orange peels can be dehydrated. I do them in the oven and then blitz them in the blender and storein a jar. I have tried these in "cakes" made from leftover bread, butter and sugar (like bread and butter pudding) and they taste brilliant. I would never have thought if this before. Waste nothing folks. It's amazing what you can come up with when things get tough. X

I recently bought a dehydrator and I'm loving it! I am looking into making my own dehydrated meals. Hikers and outdoor enthusiasts have been doing it forever. I think they are perfect for prepping. Just add water!

I just spent several hours doing some math and thought I’d post my findings in case this might help someone. If anyone is a little broke but still thinking about purchasing a long term food survival kit (up to 25 year shelf life), Augason Farm’s 30 day kit is the cheapest per calorie. It would really be more like an 18 day supply if one were going by 2.000 daily calories. I compared it with 4Patriots, My Patriot, and about five others which go up in price from those two. For meat, canning at home is going to be the cheapest.

Plus Tasha, the easier we can make it in the beginning of an emergency and not have to worry about "what's for dinner" the less stressful it will be. We'll have enough "on our plates" to deal with.

Look into peasant food dishes from countries during war time, economic hard times. Italian: Pasta e Fagioli (fazool) white cannelini beans, ditalini pasta, onion, garlic, olive oil plum tomatoes, basil, parsley. Make a big hearty bowl in 20 minutes. Lots of great recipes and presentations on yt

DOES ANYONE KNOW WHY SOME AVOCADOS DON'T RIPEN? THEY WILL LOOK DARK LIKE THEY ARE RIPE BUT ROCK SOLID AND RUBBERY EVEN AFTER A FEW DAYS. ARE THE STORES FREEZING THEM OR SPRAYING THEM IN THE BACK?

I get the cheaper percentage hamburger and I start browning it it gently, I add an onion chopped and seasonings and instead of cooking it up quickly, I put a lid on it and turn the temperature down and simmer it for about an hour, then I take the lid off and turn the temperature back up and finish browning it. Cooking it this way makes it very tender and flavorful. I drain it and portion it up in one pound bags and freeze it.

I'm doing OK here in Wisconsin. We're supposed to be getting rain tomorrow morning. I have chicken breasts and hamburger to can but I'm not feeling my best today. My husband said to take today off and rest up. I'll hit it harder tomorrow and get everything done. I went to town to get some more pint jars. After canning tomorrow I'll get netting on my grapes. Usually the wild animals get them but this year I'm making jelly.
