If you can go to the local farmers market and get some of these fresh purple hull peas! You will love them with some cornbread! We had them with Ham, Pork …
Purple hull peas are absolutely the best of all the peas. I love yellow squash, cabbage, okra and tomatoes!!! I could live on those veggies. Thank you for doing such a great job with your blog! You and Chris are a treasure!!!!!
Aren't these black (purple) eyed peas? We call them choaree in Gujarat India and cook them with potatoes and brinjals (Indian variety of eggplants).
This is the first time I have grown purple hull peas and they are almost ready to pick! You said that you store them in a gallon size bag until you get enough that are ready to shell. Do you put them in the refrigerator until ready to shell? Thank you so much for the recipe! I can't wait to cook them.
cook with a few small okra pods and let the homegrown sliced tomato juice leak into them
I’m from the North and cannot find seed for purple hull peas. Can I get the name of where you order your seeds? My folks were from Alabama and I remember them buying seed for butter beans that were speckled and so good. Can’t find that either! Miss the southern cooking and your show has filled a void from losing my parents. So many memories. Thank you!
Never had those! What does these peas taste like? I love peas! Tammy love the color of your finger nail polish. What color is it? What brand?
Purple Hull Peas! My parents raised these every year in their garden. I like all beans and peas, but for some reason these were special. Thanks for the video and the memories!
Yes these look good. Never had purple peas. Have to try.
Yummy….between these peas and okra your way, makes me want some soooo much!
When I was a kid, we picked these on halves. By far, one of the easiest peas to pick and shell. One of the tastiest, too. At the beginning of the video, I saw what I thought was a big, black king snake, haha. It must have been hose in the garden.
Tammy how did y’all end up in Saint Mary’s? Do you feel like you were led by the Lord to go there? Do you still own your house in the mountains of Georgia?
Because here’s why I’m asking. I know people that the Lord is leading or I thought down that way. I definitely felt like I was supposed to go to Florida? But I can’t go there for anything. Now some people on YouTube are talking about there being problems and needing to get out of Florida? Well here is a funny thing. With my not ever being able to go to Florida. I mean really I’d have to sit down and tell you all the things that of happened that are crazy. Plus I never had anywhere to go until now. And now I have a place to get out of here the bottom of South Carolina. That’s a whole beautiful story of the Lord you would not believe.
So it’s weird like maybe were supposed to go to Florida later? But those whom He loves is giving an escape route to get out of this area for now?
I had some for the first time ever last week. Delicious!
Lord, I love purple hull peas! They are my favorites! ❤️
How many cookbooks. Do you have out ma'am

Bought some at a fruit stand last week. I cooked them with chicken broth, chopped onion and bits of bacon and a little Cajun seasoning at the end. So good!
I remember going to my granddaddy's in the summer in Mississippi sitting on the porch with my grandma and Mom shelling peas, and they were so good.
Tammy please don't even change the music of your introduction. I love it and it makes me smile every time I hear it. So I'm wondering why you wash freshly pulled peas from your garden but you don't wash those dirty dry beans from the store?
Good 5:00pm. Evening in ole Missouri havent heard that type of beans. That I can remember. It's a 1st. For me. And I grew up in the country 😃 Brenda.
Will try those peas sometime

Tammy , I fixed your cube steak and dumplings and mashed potatos and fried green tomatos , so delish!!! Thanks! for your recipes!!!
Girl, have you not shelled lots of purplehull peas? We raise them every year and I'd be shelling all day the way you're doing it. Open very top of pea and slide your thumb all the way down, making quick work of it. When you have 5 gallon buckets full to shell, got to get them done! We usually put abt 20-30 quart bags in freezer every year. Sure are good in the winter. Love your show!
I love these peas. I freeze mine so I can have them during the winter.
I helped my daughter put up her first garden, and she planted purple hulls. I love them too! And she pays me off in veggies lol, what is you favorite beef broths? Love your videos ☀️

Am from kenya and in my region we still grow them, we even eat the young tender leaves. Am glad to know the English name since I never knew they are eaten all over.
I love peas , never ate these
My favorite!
Love those, especially with fried pork chops!
These are my very favorite !! Yum
I just cooked some with a ham bone with lots of ham on it, I cooked till meat was falling off the ham and then added several whole scrubbed potatoes at the end. Cook just till Tatars was fork done, I don't like the taters to fall apart in them, I like for them to stay whole. I like to cut up on the side with sour cream. and had rice to go with it..yum yum.
Lord Tammy and Chris! I have shelled many a Purple-Hull pea with my precious late Mother. Purple Hulls were her favorite. We called it shelling a "mess" of peas. You have to look for little worms too. My Mother would cook Purple Hull peas, fried field corn, fried okra, fresh sliced garden tomatoes, fresh cucumbers, green onions, banana pepper, cornbread, and iced sweet tea with some cut lemon on the table. What I would give to eat her good cooking again! God Bless you both for being old-timey from my generation like me. 🙂
My Dad planted them every year in his garden one of our favorite peas ..I remember shelling purple hull peas until my fingers were sore..but so worth it come cooking time and yours look delicious making me hungry here at midnight ..lol
