This is such a great video. Thanks for sharing the meal extenders and capsule haul.
Hi Denise! I love this. You look so pretty in your apron!
My shopping routine is really close to yours, especially when I still had children at home.
I also prefer the canned green beans. 😊 And agree with you on the carrots.
I'm lactose intolerant, so I always have a container of sheep's milk yogurt on hand that I substitute for sour cream.
I have a son that also uses the agave syrup, and a daughter that uses honey. I still use white sugar, and keep molasses on-hand to combine with white sugar to make my own brown sugar that doesn't turn into a rock.
I live in the Southwest, but never learned how to make corn or flour tortillas, but those are readily available in every store around here, and there's a particular brand of corn tortillas I prefer.
Some of my buying and cooking has changed now that I don't have as many people around, and no teenage sons in football😳😅 But, I may have to go back to that when my grandsons get old enough to be in sports.
An item I buy now that I didn't before is beef roasts, especially brisket. I cook that low and slow in the oven, then divide it up for freezing in smaller portions to have on hand to add to salads or stews or burritos. I save the rendered fat to use in beans.
Canned tomatoes in all variations is especially useful for so many things . . . I haven't bought a jar of pasta sauce in years . . . I use it for Tex-Mex chili bowl, chili mac, minestrone soup, albondigas (a meatball and rice soup), chile carivé, spaghetti, Spanish rice . . . I've even made my own barbeque sauce a few times in a crunch😄
I also keep grits on hand to make a grits pie that my family loves.
I'm just like you with the beans and lentils, but I also have the Navy beans and Northern beans. I tried making my own three-bean soup, but it just hasn't turned out as well as the pre- packaged one.
I don't know how you manage to do all you do, on top of recording and editing videos for YouTube. Thank you for all you do!
Hey Mrs. Jordan! ❤ A 20 Capsule Grocery List is my homework assignment this week. I really like your Carrots, Onions, and Celery trilogy. It's a great way to ensure nutrients in each meal.
Date sugar is pretty good. Maple syrup and brown sugar are some of my fave sweeteners, and I like your fruit and veggies staples.
I love this! I need to try cream of wheat.
Hey Denise! This list is a great resource. I wrote it out in my "Kimmie" planner on the sopping list. I can't wait to use it to make my list for the next month shopping trip. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for this video very helpful
I don't make my own tortillas but I buy corn tortillas and fry them up for tacos. So much tastier than the boxed kind and so much cheaper. I just checked the prices at my local store and the boxed taco shells are $2.79 for 10 shells. A package of 30 corn tortillas is $2.69. If you've never tried making tacos this way, give it a try. So much better! I keep them in the refrigerator and they last a very long time.
This was such a great video Denise! I love this so much! I had to laugh when you said you love the canned green beans and corn! That is me also! I love fresh for all other veggies but the green beans from a can taste better to me. LOL! Thanks for another fantastic video! ❤
Thank you for sharing!
Seems more like 20 categories for food basics to keep on hand.
Great grocery list! That would really help with planning your meals and making your grocery list each time. I would probably include the peppers with the veggies 😂. Thanks for sharing your wisdom Denise!!❤😊
My 20 item capsule grocery list:
1. Meat/Poutry/Fish
2. Seasoning Vegetables- this would be the veg trinity, and I would put peppers and garlic in this category
3. Grains – rice, flour, cornmeal
4. Milk – I include heavy cream in this category
5. Eggs
6. Cheese
7. Bread
8. Potatoes
9. Tomatoes
10. Pasta
11. Beans
13. Vegetables
14. Fruit
15. Nuts
16. Herbs/spices
17. Oils, Fats & Butter
18: Tea/Coffee/Juice
19. Sugar – I don’t like sugar substitutes
20. Snacks – I have to include snacks because my budget gets blown if I don’t account for them
I would buy the yogurt unless I was planning to buy sour cream for something else. I use to have a lot of leftover sour cream.
Is there a reason you didn’t include coffee, tea, oils and fats on your list?
Your a joy!
Thank you so much for sharing your 20 Item Capsule Grocery Haul. This helps me better organize my grocery list so I’m not overspending. 😊❤
We use frozen vegetables unless fresh is available.
When I was young during the 50s and 60s, we also served bread with our meals bc family of 11 we needed to extend the meal😂
The aprin looks good Butt what's in it Looks much Better 👀
when it comes to generic brand products: we use lots of Kirkland products form Costco and use Kroger brand cheese that is made by Cabot. That is all we use.
I make a coconut granola that I got from Christine at Frugal Fit Mom. I’ve adjusted it for my oven and don’t cook as high temp it has oats, shredded coconut, coconut oil, honey, and vanilla. You can add cinnamon or nuts too. 😁 Thanks for the great video, Denise.
