Some would argue that NO chicken noodle soup is really complete without Matzo Balls. There’s just something about a Matzoh Ball – the jewish soup dumplings.

I use schmaltz in my matzo ball mix instead of oil. It gives them flavor and are never too dense. I also use chicken broth mixed with water to cook the matzo balls.

I’m the furthest thing from Jewish, and live in the Canadian prairies where the Jewish population is scant at best, but I had the opportunity to try matzoh ball soup once in my life, and it was absolutely divine!! I had no idea what to expect, but matzoh balls were nothing like I thought they’d be, light and fluffy and bursting with the flavour of the wonderful chicken soup. I’m a fan! I’ll need to try to get my hands on some matzoh meal, and make these myself, soon!

Jeff, I am making chicken and dumplings for the family xmas eve. I haven't found any recipe that looks ….. special. How would chicken noodle soup, leave out the noodles and make the matzoh balls? I planned on using bisquick, I don't like the heavy thick dumpling vs. light/airy… HELP

Love your video, however, I live in Ca. where we've been in drought conditions far too long. Instead of letting the water run, get a bowl of water and wet your hands. This is a good idea for anywhere, save our resources, water 😉 Thanks for the video ♥

I've never had them, though I've heard of them. Now I'm going to pick up some matzo meal and make them. The consistency looked to me similar to cornbread before it's cooked. Your mom is lovely. Thanks for explaining and including the rest of us 😉

I'm not Jewish and neither is anyone in my family, but my mom LOVES matzo ball soup and I inherited my love of matzo balls from her. I learned how to make them from scratch rather than having to always go to a restaurant to have it

They look amazing. I don't go for those fluffy, fall-apart matzoh balls. They definitely have to keep their shape. Great tutorial! Also, your mom is adorable. <3
