This recipe looks AMAZING! Tbh I was expecting a crust at some point and was surprised when there wasn't one. Lol! That's the southerner in me I suppose. Lol! You say pot pie I expect there will be a crust. But regardless… I would eat this just exactly like how it's made! This has my mouth watering so I could understand why Eddie was anxious to get his hands on a big giant bowl of it! Omg thank you Paula for making this recipe! That was so sweet of you to do this for one of your subscribers! I made a whole cookbook of my family's recipes a couple years ago and I'd have a hard time picking out just one of my childhood favorite recipes my mama use to make! I have so many! One might be chocolate gravy for breakfast. Another might be her old fashioned giant cinnamon rolls or divinity candy or even some good ol fashioned chocolate fudge… See I have too many I love! Lol Thanks again Paula for sharing this! I want to definitely make this dish!

I'd just call that chicken & noodles. I make it without the potatoes. Those I cook separately & mash them. Then you put a pile of mashed potato on your plate and spoon the chicken & noodles on the potatoes. Hearty eats!

It was a real treat. Paula you’re a sweetheart! Love you I like collecting old church cookbooks and making recipes ,miss my moms cooking she was a great cook and a sweetheart.

my mother in law makes this traditional dish it is also called a Slippery chicken pot pie sometimes they use chuck roast in it.. ofc everyone makes it different.. she makes her noodles from scratch.. but adds peas, onion, carrots , celery, salt and pepper garlic powder to it.. her is just like a dumpling recipe a chicken gravy in it…. but more stewy.. it is delicious..

The one thing I do differently is cook the chicken the same way but I remove the chicken and let the broth cool then I refrigerate over night the next day I take it out and all of the fat had gone to the top and hardened then just dip out the chunks and you have a healthy fatless broth better for you and tastier.

When my mother made this – she used chicken or ham and ham broth and it was "Pot Pie". When she made the Bisquick dumplings that are dropped into broth and puff up tender and good – that was Chicken & Dumplings. So we did it both ways – I still do – in Virginia.
