I saw this recipe on another channel, but she pokes her cake, melt her icing and spoon it first on the holes, and then all over. It looked amazing. BTW, I think your rack is too high for baking. I have mine lower, and my cake does not crack. Great video.

I tried this today using Duncan Hines and the instant chocolate pudding. Great bake and texture, it's just a little fakey tasting still, there are apparently 3 different kinds of Duncan Hines chocolate cake (just.for chocolate lol) so hopefully one of the other boxes is better.
For my modifications when I do a box mix i put a little extra cocoa and cinnamon in, as well as vanilla extract. Gives it some extra spice and flavor and helps it taste less like a box cake. Instead of frosting I usually just put chunks of dark chocolate on the top.
Thanks for this video as it was my starting point and helped me understand this recipe.

Maybe I’m alone on this but I really can’t stand the processed, fake, transfatty canned frosting. So I save a bit of time with boxed cake mix ( I obviously use milk and avoid the biggest mistake everyone does with cake: cookies- do NOT overbake! Overtaking leads to dryness . )

Saving time on the mix allows me to make an edible frosting . Not only frosts better, tasted 10x better , but tricks people into thinking the whole thing is scratch.

I’m excited to try this! I now subscribed. 🙂 you seem very kind & genuine!

Side note I have a question. There’s commercials before your video. Do you have control of that? I’ve seen this really sad video from 3 different videos (not just yours) & it makes me cry so much 😔 I donated to PETA but I keep running into it. It’s a very upsetting audio about sweet little owls. Any advice how to pass or avoid it? I can’t hear the 3 seconds to wait to skip it. 😞😔😢😢😢😫😭

Years ago, I heard about adding 1/4 of a cup of mayonnaise to any cake recipe. It can be added whether it’s a box cake or a homemade one. It can also be added to any brownie mix. I have done this ever since and it makes the most moist cake ever!!!

Your hacks sound delicious, but why are you using store bought frosting? Home-made is so much better and very easy to make…you already have butter (one stick, room temperature) milk and the mixer is out…just rustle up the powdered sugar, cocoa powder and a little vanilla and you're in for a real treat. Lots of recipes on youtube.

I like my chocolate high cocoa content. I add an extra 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder to the mix so it's more chocolate, a bit less sweet, like the Belgian Semisweet bars….so chocolatee good!

For the best super moist, super rich cakes for wedding, or making fine cake pastries, Dunkin Hines cake mix. Refrigerate the box with the cake mix in it first. Keep everything very cold. Use ice water, reduce the amount by 3 tablespoons, use only 2 tablespoons of oil, and use 3 eggs. Add the cake mix and water, beat till a bit fluffy, add 1 egg at a time beating a bit fluffy each time, add the oil last and just stir to incorporate. Do NOT use the cake the same day that you bake it. Let it sit in a cool place or refrigerator, covered, for 2+ days. Refrigerate or freeze if letting it sit longer than 2 days.
