I love your dinner plan! Your balance of cooking everything from scratch and figuring out what time you need is very sensible. As always, love your channel, Tess! 💜

Lovely video. I know you sell on eBay and Etsy, could you mention what your other employment is? You may have mentioned it before, I haven’t been watching your channel for very long. I’m in California, I can’t believe some of those grocery prices, even with the exchange rate those are very good prices.

You got a lot for your £80! I was grocery shopping today as well, and shopped for the Easter weekend, as shops are closed here from tomorrow afternoon until Sat morning, opening again a few hours on Sat, then shops are closed again until Tuesday. Is it the same way in the UK? I have food in the freezer, so we will manage fine, and one son is away on Easter vacation. Only one with hollow legs at home then! 😂 Changed from my studded winter tires to summer tires today, had to buy 4 new summertires, as the old ones were worn out… That is why one have a sinking fund for car…. and I need to increase it, the inflation has made the prices for car tires to jump up over 20%! As if Norway wasn´t expensive enough to begin with! 😅

Thanks for the current haul! I really like seeing the difference. What you get there for 80 would be $132 Canadian, and Im not sure it would get that much. Cheese and fresh veg here are crazy(especially if you live rural and cant get to a big store). I love the 'picky tea'! I used to do that Friday nights when my kids were all home. I was a single mum of 4 and went to uni. Fridays were 'free for all' supper and movie night. They could have whatever they wanted to eat as long as they each ate one bit of leftover from the fridge, and whatever else they had, they had to make, not me! There was often cereal, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, and cheese, or pizza toast. Then it was popcorn and movie. The tradition carried for many years, and now my daughter does it with my grands!

I agree, sometimes time is in short supply and cost of time needs to be weighed with financial costs. Looks like you did well on your budget with the amount of food you got. I think you do very well with 2 hungry teenagers!

Thanks for sharing. I'm currently rejigging our budget due to income and cost changes. It's a bit tricky as we don't really know the exact financial picture yet, so I'm being very cautious.

    Advice needed:

My 13 year old son struggles in school holidays, he wants to be doing or on electronics ( he has got friends but the parents are well off/work full time even in school holidays and pay for the teen to do daily activities like tennis club so are not free in the day time) me and husband struggle to get through the month. Even though I considered myself as lucky as off in the school holidays. I am struggling to keep him busy for free and with electric bill on the rise I am trying to reduce his use of electricity.

    Any tips?

The carrots with a bit of work should give you a lot of usable veg. When I had a family at home I use to buy sacks of stock carrots. They were much like you have got there broken, oversized, or strange shaped. I would use them fresh for as long as they kept out in the garage then when they started to go over I would peel chop and freeze them. These supplemented all the winter veg we bought every week.

Hi Tess, thanks for sharing, looks like a good load for your money. We don't have so much on the snack side except to have some biscuits and crisps in reserve 'just in case'. We are usually too stuffed after meals to feel like a dessert even though we've reduced our meal sizes! To be fair, with the cost of butter, I've always thought buying biscuits was cheaper than home made. Added to that the impending fuel costs, well, 4 packs for £1 can't be beat. If I got some butter on offer and was planning to fill the oven for a while I might consider it. I noticed one supermarket yesterday had some huge British lamb legs on offer and I did wonder how many people would opt to pay £16 and then have to pay for the roasting of it as well. Interesting times, think I'd rather stick with the thinner cuts and chicken pieces that take just a short time on top of the hob. ❤️

Hi Tess great shop but I suppose like everyone you are struggling to stay in budget. I usually have about £20 left from my shopping budget which I use to stock up the freezer and pantry. Last month I just managed to come in on budget but looking at April so far I don’t think that will be the case this month. I always cook at home, I don’t buy processed or ready made foods and as I am trying to control my weight I don’t buy many snacks or treats. I do make low sugar desserts and have fruit and yogurt for deserts.

Really enjoyed this. I don't often shop in lidl as I'm not a big fan of their fruit and veg plus my 18 year old daughter is brand conscious. But when I do, I'm amazed at what I can actually get for my money.
I enjoy watching frugal videos but often the tiny budget is simply inadequate for our needs as a family …. £80 is a realistic figure…there are 3 of us, myself 18 year old (who will be heading to the mainland to Liverpool uni in September) and a 5ft 3 10 year old boy who eats proper man size portions.
I have never baked in my life, I even took on Latin and ancient history with classical civilisation from I was 11 to 16 ….I choose 2 extra gcses than endure home economics) so all our sweet stuff is bought. Although we don't keep biscuits and buns really in the house …I only buy what's asked for in packed lunches. Never justify why you choose to buy something. Your family, your choice xx

Hi Tess, you got loads for your money there. Do you have a separate budget for household/personal stuff like toilet rolls, deodorant, soap, washing up liquid etc? I also buy packets of biscuits etc for the kids, I don’t have the time or inclination to be making everything from scratch and get asked for snacks about 50 times a day!!
