I think lots of countries have their own version of this soup. We have it in Portugal the name over here it's Canja. We can also put in it pieces of carrot, hard boiled eggs and mint. You can also use pasta instead of rice. I prefer it with rice tho and it's one of my favorite portuguese soups.
I thought so that the word Congee sounds extremely alike Canja. So I searched it up and yes, the word Congee comes from our portuguese word Canja. As many other words and recipes (like this one) from Asia. But you guys make it as a porridge while we make it more liquid. Same ingredients and same flavor tho.
