water bob warning 100 gallons of water weighs 834 pounds + the bath please make sure the floor/bath/structure under you bath can support this weight [ 830 pounds coming through the celing would be exciting just my first thaught ]
i would also add dental repair kits dental infections will take you out fast and it might start with just a lost filling good luck from old england
Mary, do you have a link to the emergency radio of which you spoke and pictured? Thank you.
Make sure your pans have lids. You can boil water or heat food so much faster if your pan has a lid.
Another source of Iodine is in Kelp. Another good option. Especially for those who have to watch their salt intake.
Hi Mary
I made the strawberry vinagre and After the four week I put it in a glass bottle it has been two weeks and now it became like champagne with bubbles.
Should I put it in the garbage?
Please advise
Thank you
Thank you Mary, even though there of us that " KNOW"😁, Its still good to keep up, we never know, always a learning…On the Vingar, I've always used Apple cider for chafing, 1st aid..Again
"Learning", 🤔🙄 never thought of White vinegar for 1st aid..Well
do now..Thanks Mary..
❤🌹
Mary, you are precious! I have a jar of sauerkraut started. It is 6 days. The top around the little jar I use for a weight is turning dark. Is that normal? Do I need to remove it? Thank you. Also I have my first sourdough starter ready to make bread.
👍👍👍
We also use the cooler shock ice packs.
Lots of good information Mary.
Just a little information for others also. Just a regular ice chest can be covered with a sleeping bag and or several blankets. We live off grid and when it's cloudy our solar runs out.
The icechest covered with blankets keeps our food cold for days. We live in the Big Bend Area of Texas with temperatures up to 112-117
What ratio of white vinegar & water?
Your videos have Good information but they are very long.
I appreciate how you try to include everyone – such as a battery operated can opener for those with arthritis or other problems. Thank you for being so considerate!
Most brands of table salt do offer iodized sea salt. The only problem I have is they all seem to contain dextrose, which can raise your blood sugar.
I used to be a pediatric home care nurse and we used white vinegar and hot water to clean the kids' reusable equipment, like respirator tubing and nebulizer tubing, containers, and masks. This is safe and effective and doesn't leave any residue like chemical disinfectants can.
I learned that if you take a manual canopener (the old kind that leaves you with a sharp metal disc) and turn it the opposite direction and use it, it will remove the whole top of the can without the sharp edges. I do have a can opener that uncrimps but the cheap one is with our emergency supplies. Also include a pair of scissors ✂️ for opening pouches like cooked chicken and tuna or freeze-dried meals.
Hello Mary, Thank you very much for sharing your homemade recipes. I made Sauerkraut on
Wednesday, July 20, Mary, an EXCELLENT recipe, very, very yummy. I'm your new subscriber from Canada. Have a wonderful day. Thank you.
A berkey is one of the best filters out there it can filter pond, creek, river or swimming pool water..
we love our Berkey 😊
When you hv a generator it’s best to hv a dual fuel generator..
we hv a dual generator and we also hv a 500 gallon propane tank and had a quick connect installed to be able to easily connect the generator to the 500 gallon propane tank..
gasoline stores long term just fine with stabilizers added we also hv ethanol free gas that stores better..
gasoline would never be a long term fuel for our generator.
We also hv a switch being installed that we can flip at the box to be able to use the generator to power what we choose..
one thing I always say is hv backups for your backups.. never just depend on one source of anything ie (water power food heat) always hv multiple sources).. if you hv multiple sources you will be set.. we lost power 6 times last year and one of those times it was 20 degrees outside and power was out over 7 hrs..
so thankful for our setup 😊
Many fridges with ‘stainless’ fronts are actually aluminum, which won’t hold magnets, so stick magnets on the sides of these types, because the sides are still steel. Also, you can improve the insulative ability of a cheaper cooler by using spray foam between the walls of the cooler (YouTube has this) (Not the expanding kind of spray foam).
I love your videos, so easy to follow your recipes. I have my favorites that I watch over and over just because your voice is so soothing. No, not a stalker, lol. Your No knead sandwich bread is a HIT in my house!!! Thank you for being you ! You are adored here in Hawaii
Very informative video.
I love my military can opener. I have 3 of them. Never go bad.
Mary, I am having trouble downloading your 36 page pantry list. When I enter my eMail address it tells me that that address is already subscribed. I was able to download the two-week emergency list, but not the 36 page list. I admit that I’m not computer literate, but my son—who is very computer literate—was also not able to download the document. PLEASE HELP!! I Love and always look forward to your uploads.
Mary, trying to print your get your 36 page pantry list and mailchimp will not complete the process. Is there another way to obtain it? Thanks!
Thank You 😊

Seriously! Thank you for all this great info! I don’t drink alcohol, but I’ve been thinking I should get some for the purposes you mentioned! Great for medical emergencies. I don’t really know the difference, but between the 2 you mentioned (whiskey or Vodka) which should I get? If I got Vodka, I could make vanilla extracts, right?
Does the refrigerator temperature device work for deep freezers also? Get a diesel or propane powered generator. Both fuel sources store for very long times. Of course you will eventually run out but where I live it is very common for us not to have enough solar to generate electricity in the winter.
Love your lists and tips! Long time prepper, but I've got more to do, that's for sure. I have that water bob, which I store right in the bathroom. The other thing I have-
thanks to you-is that 3 candle cast iron trivet. When I saw you with it some time back, I thought it was a brilliant idea and bought one when it came back in stock. A couple of goodies I have added to my preps are rechargeable light bulbs. They can be used all along as regular lightbulbs, powered/charged in lamp. Then when power goes out, just use the lamp as normal (lends to sense of normalcy, maybe extra nice for kids comfort). Or take the out and carry them around where you want it (all come with a hook socket with on/off switch for versatility). I figured if need be, they can be easily recharged with a power bank (like your Jackery). Reminds me, I need to get a solar panel to go with my power bank. Also added in a couple of small rechargeable fans and mini lamps. Good tip on keeping a crank flashlight within reach.Thank you so much for all your very informative videos! I have learned so much from you whether it’s about cooking or stocking a pantry! and I love your pleasant, cheerful personality!
Hi Mary, what do you think about a Berkey water filter system?
Keep frozen milk jugs filled with water in the top shelf of your deep freeze and it will help hold cold longer during power outage
This was good Mary. Can you at some point discuss how long food such as peanut butter or condiments that have a kind of cardboard seal. I have on hand the sterno heat. They last a long time stored and you can heat water and cook an egg. I have used right on my stove top. Thank you.
Thanks for sharing these great tips!
Mary, you have in a very tactful way brought up a
difficult need that others use to scare folks. Thanks for the courage you impart. I have a question on canning bone broth. Our freezer is loaded so I’m canning what I able to make room. Will the bone broth be degraded if I can it? It is beautifully gelatinous thanks to you and I don’t want to risk losing it. Thank you! Much love sweet Mary…
Oh Mary, that was so well done. Kudos to you on that wonderful presentation. Everything you said was wonderful advice and needed for everyone to hear. It was presented in a non-scary fashion too and just a great job. Thank you for the video. One thing I especially agree with you on is the radio. Our’s was old too and I updated ours in 2021. I was surprised it was outdated. They’ve come a long way with the radios. I keep ours in a Faraday cage. I also have my flashlight in there too. I just use my husband’s flashlight if I need it. On the same theme, I bought a Bio-Lite on Amazon that heats with twigs and waste branches but charges your cell phone or devices as it heats. I thought that might come in handy. I put it in the Faraday Cage too. I think we may just need our items protected. Thanks again for the terrific video.
Salt draws out infection!
Soak the (washed) body part in hot hot water and heavy salt solution
Till water cools completely down
Good use for nasty grocery store salt! Lol
Soak every few hrs if bad infection
2-3x a day otherwise
Should get pain relief too, reduces swelling
Make sure u wash feet bottoms and fingers, etc before soaking. Start with a clean body part – any part that’s going in the water with the infected area.
Soap also draws out infection
A heavily soaped basin of water (or cloth saturated in basin, lightly wring out only and put over the area) can draw it out. Again hot as u stand till cooled completely. Amazing how this works well.
My husband Robert and I took a page out of the Boy Scout manual. Actually my nephew was taught this cooking method and my sister has used this several times to "practice for a grid down scenario". All you need is a cast iron dutch oven with 3 legs on the bottom. Some of these come with a trivet sized for your pot. Next you need a round metal oil pan used to drain oil from your car. Then you need charcoal. The bags will tell you how many briquettes to use for cooking judged on the size of your dutch oven. You can use the trivet for frying foods, bake some bread, or even bake a pie on it. You can make soups, stews, pot roast anything you like. Hopefully this will help some of you. Happy cooking and baking, Debbie Lavigne
Hey Mary I really appreciate everything you do for us. I just wanted you to know that.
Bless you Mary! I didn’t know many of these things. I liked your idea last time of filling some thermoses to keep hot water. Besides beverages, the hot water is readily available to speed up the cooking process.
My suggestions:
1. try out the gadgets like new can openers, etc. We bought some new ones, and I trained my 11 year old granddaughter to use them, but we did not like all of them. The other thing I noticed is that some jars like big size peanut butter have such large lids, it is hard to get small hands around them. I plan to buy smaller sizes that are easier to open.
2. I often have trouble opening jars but find that rubber gloves really help me to get a good enough grip to manage them.
3. Many food packages are impossible to open unless there are scissors or pocket tool sets on hand. I bought some extra sets of scissors, both good ones and cheaper ones, and rounded up several multi-tool (like pocket knife) sets we had kicking around and put them in the emergency food section in a place where they can be easily seen. Your idea re flashlights inspires me to include some of those as well.
4. Open up and unpack the new packages of gadgets, as they are impossible to open without sharp knives or scissors.
5. The old style can openers, including the pointy one for making holes in canned milk, or juice cans, are still useful.
Hello 👋
Wow! I just downloaded your pantry essentials lists. Wonderful!!! Thank you kind lady!!!
CVS sells silver alginate bandages. They are great at fighting bacterial infections that over the counter antibiotic creams can't handle.
Because of you I am growing vegetables from kitchen scrapes instead of flowers! My husband is impressed. Thank you so much!! ❤️
We have used a propane camp stove in our home for extended periods of time…during kitchen remodels! And in Arizona, propane tanks are common on back porches, outside and exposed to sun… without explosion. Weigh your options, using propane or butane in your home to cook or boil water or starve or drink unsafe water. I u derstand and appreciate others apprehensions and merely want to share it is safe. We have lived with propane as our primary utility source for years. Just be certain to well ventilate.
We have had to use our 12 volt fridges when our refrigerator/freezer went out. We have a Renogy brand battery and solar power panels for charging. We use these on our off grid property and camper. Highly recommend and the less expensive brands are very reliable.
I also recommend a portable solar powered battery bank… ours has a flashlight as well
Many years ago I watched a program reenacting Midevial life. The woman used "Beggar's Vinegar" to clean with. I couldn't find a recipe. Do you know what this is?
Bleach must be replaced every six months to be used for water purification. If you mix bleach with water to disinfect, discard daily. I date bleach when I buy it.
