My mom had one of these and used it frequently until she got what she called "the big momma jommba". LOL You just brought back so many wonderful memories by sharing this. Thanks so much Linda. ❤

I was just thinking of making beef stew cause i haven`t had it in a long time. I got a roast today on sale and i have everything else i have to use up. I put cabbage and green beans in mine also.. I will be making that tomorrow. My mom always cooked in the presto pressure cooker but i think her`s was the 8qt one cause it was a big one and my sister has it now. Now i only use the insta pot and i gave my old presto pressure cooker stove top one to my freind. I forgot to say i don`t thicken mine cause i like to put drop dumpling on mine. Yummy!

I have an electric pressure cooker. I make chicken soup, alot, but also beef stew. Is that cornbread I see in the background? I usually make biscuits to go with my beef stew, and some cucumbers in sour cream. I think it's time to make some again.

I still have a pressure cooker that my dad used to use but not for beef stew or vegetable soup. Mom used a water bath canned to make vegetable soup or so there would be enough room for cleaned blue crabs to make crab soup if dad found some live blue crabs. Mom froze a lit of vegetable soup/crab soup. Beef stew was made in her large dutch oven, low and slow. Not sure that I'm going to keep that pot since I now have a InstantPot; not enough storage space in my small kitchen.

My mother never used a pressure cooker, so I learned by trial and error. I got my cooker about 50 years ago, right after getting married. It was my go to method of cooking for a long time. Of course, now I have 2 Instant Pots and it's what I reach for to cook most foods…now disabled and can't stand for a long time. I love pressure cooking. Thanks for the "blast from the past!"

Beef stew was probably the meal that got made the most often in my mom's Presto pressure cooker. She'd always include the carrots with the beef cubes because they take longer to cook than the potatoes and celery. I've got her cooker but need to get a new gasket for it. Thank you for showing us the cookbook and this delicious recipe.

    Hi Linda!

    Love the Mirror Matic!

Do you happen to remember where you bought the gasket?

I have my grandmothers MM canner and need a gasket it! Still have the box and instructions that came with it – purchased in 1978!

My Grammy had a pressure cooker just like yours and cooked so many great meals in it!

Thanks for the memory lane trip!

Thank you for this video. I keep watching pressure cooker ideas to get the courage to try one. I make my stew on the stove top pretty much the sane way, but like your idea of thickening with left over flour mixture.😊

I have my husband's great-grandmother's and his grandmother's pressure cookers but I've been afraid to use them. Thank you so much for this demo. The original instant pot! Love it!

Hi Linda! I remember my mamas and grandmother’s jiggling all the time while cooking and that’s how I use mine. I use a pressure cooker sometimes still and I raised my kids with many pressure cooker meals. Thanks for sharing and have a blessed day!

Thank you for this. It looked delicious.
The greatest thing i love about the surge of Instant Pot and other electric multicooker recipes is that they are so creative and a wide variety of recipes that work for our stove top pressure cookers.
I've been able to use my stove top Kuhn Rikon's a lot more since the IP cookbooks came out, complete with all the directions needed.
    Thank you.
    God Bless
