I normally buy Ambrosia, but tried the asda one just the other day, it was disgusting to be honest, it was watery, and lumpy at the same time, was also a yellow / mustardy coulour also had no taste what so ever. Its the old adage you get what you pay for, and i wont be paying for asda again.
Just paying for Brand names most of the time
No full cream in cheap tin
you're doing a great thing Gareth, keep them coming
Just put some suger in. 😊🏴🇫🇷 25 pence, good food, excellent price…
I love rice pudding but the cheap brands are a million times better than "Ambrosia Creamed Rice" which is the ONLY brand I cannot eat. What the hell do they do to it? BTW, rice pudding is a great thing to stock up in readiness for the fast approaching famine. Buy now before NATO attacks China and destroys yet another supply chain.
less sugar good for health
Only ever eat rice pudding cold man what are you doing lol 😅
Way back in 2015, Ambrosia moved from buttermilk to whey powder. I am allergic to whey. Not been able to 'enjoy' rice pudding since. Instead, I have been eating Muller rice pots. They are still whey free. Unfortunately, at 90p per pot (Co-op) they're now off my shopping list. Not had any since they were 75p or 3 for £2
My favourite soup is Heinz Lentil but I have had to quit eating it, even as a treat. It's now £1.55 per can, in the Co-op. Up from 90p (last time I bought it from Morrison's, several months ago).
I will be buying ALDI rice pudding after watching your video, thank you
Tbh asda essentials are a joke, we saw the range online and thought cool what with prices we'll see what there like some much of what was available wasn't In local stores or available online in our area back to normal products we went and elsewhere
you dont want it too sweet cos you're gonna be chucking some jam in there with it any way ,let's face it.
bought some of this last night for the first time ever from Asda's,then this shows up in my recommendations today?? weird eh?
I shop in ASDA regularly and I've never seen asda rice pudding at £0:25 , its £0:55 for their own brand!
The ASDA has only skimmed milk, the Ambrosia had both skimmed and full cream milk, which probably accounts for the creaminess. ASDA Tesco and Aldi all have a 25p pudding, they are a little less sweet and thinner than the Ambrosia. They also feel as if they have used long grain rice rather than the more expensive short grain pudding rice. However, add a spoonful of jam and you may not notice a lot of difference. They all stock a 60p version, which is thicker and sweeter, comparable to Ambrosia. I've not bothered to buy the Ambrosia for over twenty years.
When I was riding long distance (12 hour) cycling time trials I survived on rice pudding handed up to me in plastic cups as I was riding. The cheaper ones were better as it slipped down easier, sometimes it would be mixed with tinned fruit cocktail to thin it and add interest. I'm still partial to rice pudding straight from the tin.
Dude. Your not supposed to heat it up. You are suposed to eat it out of the tin like civilised person😉
the burning question I have is…did you eat those 2 cans right there all on your own..?
You come across as a good bloke !!
Tried the asda essentials rice pudding 2 weeks ago. Actually had it for breakfast as I'd no oatmilk left or yogurt. Put a bit of vanilla essence in, sprinkle of brown sugar and plonked the bowl under the grill…yummy.
It is easy to make just time to creed the rice, ( for the rice to absorb the water while slowly cooking it making it fluffy )
I love cold rice pudding with a bit of jam, I make it at work when it is on our menu, water, full fat milk, evaporated milk and nutmeg if you like nutmeg
I've had that just essentials rice pudding, it was nice but not enough sweetness for me. Yes I had semolina too the one I detested was tapioca. Yuk horrible xx
I like my tinned rice pudding cold, straight out of the tin.
Great review thanks for sharing I don't think that the Ambrosia is worth 4 times the price of the Asda Essentials brand like you said if you like it sweeter ad a little sugar. It's surprising how these cheaper brands tend to have less salt and sugar and in some cases can be healthier.
Tapioca in school FROGSPAWN lovely
I live in Westward Ho and yes Appledore Shipyard was closed but has since reopened. I couldn't live anywhere else x
yup Gaz
At the end of the day, homemade whatever is much cheaper and you may make it much healthier !!!
The comparison videos are the most useful.
2:28 is your evidence for poor quality Asda product, first item (normally most in a product) SKIMMED Milk vs FULL CREAM Milk. Then on top of that which is missing on Ambrosia is WATER which Asda uses to bring cost and quality down. I also believe that the extra sweetness from Ambrosia is actually from the Lactose (milk sugars) rather then refined sugar. Personally I have tried both and find the Asda one even with extra sugar is too watery.
Can I just make a serious pointer. On a recent visit to my local Asda I looked at the production printing on the bottom of some cans and actually noticed Asda are actually competing against themselves. For example the 1 item I recall due to my daughters school cooking ingredients Asda ‘yellow tin’ kidney beans had an almost exact replica of their own slightly higher priced kidney beans. I then looked further and found the same on other tinned items.
As a thought maybe try doing a ‘3 way’ comparison between yellow can, Asda own and branded?
I love to eat it cold straight from the tin…
This product regardless of brand is a life saver. Keep always in the back of your cupboard.
WARNING EVERYONE WHO READS THIS.
Don't try the sainsbury basic rice pudding. It looks fine but it's tasty nasty🤮🤮🤮🤢🤢🤢
9% rice in rice pudding. .. thought there'd be more 🤔… as the asda is 4 times cheaper is it fair to consider it value if its less than four times as nice ? Possibly not but these days value is very important
"Suphering sugar tax" old cartoon ref lol .Great vid cheers best of luck with abstinence (thumbsup) 🙂
💕👍Oh I love warm rice pudding with a little 🤏 jam or Nutella, yum, but only very rarely due to the calories and sugar etc👍💕
I prefer asda essential rice pudding it's less sweet x
Thankyou Gareth another great comparison video, just essentials all the way…put some jam in it!…We'll done on not drinking, I did dry January once, that was a very long month especially as we went into lockdown!
I love it cold.
Interesting and I like the fact that you don't take it too serious, as you say it's just a laugh. I suppose we maybe should ask the question, is ambrosia making a big profit or is the producer of essentials being screwed down so much by asda that very little profit is made. Just a thought.
Im in Biddy, App.ship reopened!
Excellent comparison again. Just had Tesco own brand rice pud (Stockwell) @ 23p per tin (2p saving over Asda lol).. love rice pud cold straight out the tin with a splash of evaporated milk and jam mixed in. Will have to try the Asda one.
