This brings back memories of when I was younger, I use to make this and the bread frequently and I gave out starter to family and friends to do also. Thanks for sharing. ๐Ÿ™‚โค

Aren't we long lost cousins? I'm pretty sure I'm your southern cousin in West Virginia by way of several other states. I think the cake/bread would be awesome with pork roast and fried apples. Keep cooking and we will keep drooling.

Helga your the very best!!!! This looks so delicious. And such a great present for friends too. Do you think I could use Stevia; instead of sugar? Thank you so very much for adding in all step by step detailed instructions. That is so very helpful along with great video step by step. Oh yum ๐Ÿ˜‹Love Tamson ๐Ÿ˜‡๐Ÿ’—

I sure remember when this was a thing back when I was a teenager in the late 60s-early 70s. My mom was a school bus driver who came home with some bread, some starter and the recipes. (That was in her "country" phase when she was into Early American and Shaker type decor). Good memories! I may even still have that recipe in my recipe box, will have to check. But darn, I'm trying to lose weight and can't keep anything like this bread in my home. Looks so good.
