I might actually have to make your version, I watched it, because it came up as a suggestion after Tuna Casserole, (My favorite dinner), goulash was the one I HATED, my folks version was a LOT simpler, mostly hamburger, with mostly raw onion, stewed tomatoes, and macaroni. When given a choice on going to bed without supper, I RAN!!! Yours looks a darn sight more tasty, although, I think I'll still cook the onion a wee bit more, I am after all, the Paul Bunyan, of cooking that darn onion!!!😃😃😃

OMG… I just finished making this. It is absolutely delish! I added some bell peppers, corn and 2 cans of bushes red beans.
I also used beef broth instead of chicken. Otherwise I made it exactly like you did. I'm sitting here full and satisfied.

It’s funny how we all grow up with different versions of goulash. My mom made an “okra goulash” which I loved. It was similar to this without pasta and we ate over rice. Probably influenced by southern cooking and gumbos since we lived in Houston not too far from Louisiana. The first time I experienced an American goulash similar to what is shown here I was very confused. Since it reminded me of American style spaghetti. Whatever you call it, I love all versions. Ha!

You cheated Chef John. You started off with elbow macaroni…but your finished product in the video showed an elbow macaroni with ridges. Either way….I love your videos. And this is exactly how my Mom made Goulash. She always added cheese!

Chef John, I have enjoyed most all of your recipes. There are a couple of things that Ido not enjoy: broccoli and chitlins. I believe both of them were invented by Democrats! yuck!

My mother did a ground beef version in the early '60s or so, hers with green bell pepper. She entered and had it published in the local paper. It was good, and I endeavored to copy it, but this blazes a flavor trail, no question. Thank you!
