Love your videos. Seasonal produce is different from state to state and a great way to save $. I also bring my own food on trips; lunch and breakfast – I enjoy finding new restaurants for dinners.

Spent most of the day in the garden today. Potatoes are hilled, onions are in, beans just went in as well as some companion plants. I didn’t forget the flowers which are natures pest control as well as beautiful and most have medicinal qualities as well.

Quick trip to Walmart for some potting soil on rollback and ran into grocer clerk. She told us if we found anything that “expired” today or tomorrow, she’d mark down. Needless to say, I found ALL the beef stew meat and the markdown will not incredible definitely was worth the purchase. Beef has become so expensive and you know I’m canning that! I love me some Bourbon beef. My mom has asked for some just canned in beef broth (which I’ve already got…my own 😉) for her famous beef and noodles. All in all a good day. Produce was sky high so I made sure to order my Bountiful Basket which makes in season produce (fruits and veggies) extremely affordable especially if you know how to preserve. Highly recommend Bountiful Basket if you have it available in your area.

    Happy harvesting/preserving everyone!

Dang! I had decided not to like you because you seemed too polished and I figured you were just going to end up on Food Network with your own line of cookware. Well, I've watched you a few more times and you've got a lot of good sense. I hope you're really as genuine as you seem, cause if you are, you're quite amazing. Anyway, I'm hooked😊

I did artifical pansies in our window boxes with no direct sun from dollar tree and my neighbor finally asked me "how do you keep those alive?" & i told her they were fake. She loved the idea 🙂

This little trip looks simply delightful. We also love to cook on vacation to save money but also I enjoy it more on vacation when I am not rushed and can really just enjoy the process. So glad you got to get away together and relax 🙂

Yep, ❤❤❤ my home canned roast (beef, pork, lamb). And ground beef, chicken breast & thighs, kielbasa, etc.
I spent 30 minutes putting dinner on the table
Easter was lamb roast, summer squash from last year, carrots, & fancied couscous. Guest brought flan & mac & cheese. It was fab!😊

Ma'am (Friend in my head)! I got the collapsible 3pc Tupperware set from TJ Maxx. I have been trying to reduce my plastic usage while creating more space in the cabinets. If any of you have a store. All Pop Shelf near you go in there they have great finds like Cuisinart reusable velcro sandwich wrapper (wrapped like the old days with parchment). A 2-pack for $3, I love a meaningful deal!

I can completely understand the low key, catch your breath, style of vacation. I live in N. KY and a favorite place for DH & I to go is Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill in Harrodsburg, KY. You can stay on the property in restored Shaker buildings, learn about the Shaker history and how they farmed, their music, etc. If lucky enough to be there when the Poplar trees are in bloom the sight is truly impressive. At night you could hear a pin drop. Should you ever have the chance to be in our neck of the woods, check it out.

I don't think this represents the real 'old way' panko? Is some kind of breading? And what is 'seasonall'? I doubt they had any kind of pre-made little pie crust. This is not my favorite episode for my GF kitchen.
    Thanks though!

I wish I could figure out how to add a photo to this comment because I was shocked beyond belief when I saw the price of cauliflower at our grocery store a couple days ago…I live in Michigan but it’s a cold weather crop…it was $11.99 for organic ( just one head!) and $8.99 for conventional grown cauliflower! Who would pay that? You can bet I’ll be growing cauliflower in my garden.

So many great recipes! I just cooked a ham I bought for .49 a pound and the soup is a great way for me to store some of it rather than fill up the freezer. I lost everything in my chest freezer a couple of months ago so I need to start curating again.

Cassandra, thanks for sharing that Maryland crab cake. It looks soooo good.

Glad to see you and your family thriving. The dog is new to me – he's adorable – and I'm a cat and turtle person. (Pet-wise.)

I enjoy hearing your tips about saving on food expenses. I don't think I've had rhubarb except possibly in a single serve store-bought pie that was blander than old instant oatmeal. I appreciate the tip about buying close to the "sell by" date. Thanks for sharing.

I’m definitely going to do the milk chocolate idea. Perhaps I can still find Easter chocolate? We have a big family gathering coming at our place this summer, so I hope so. Marked down peeps make excellent marshmallows too. Think crème brûlée. Now I m going to need that recipe for rhubarb sauce. I can’t find it on your channel. Can you help me out? Wish you lived here on the west coast. I’d invite you to come sit on my porch.

Have never cooked cabbage before! Must try.
That rhubarb sauce looks good. Every year we're offered lots, but I never know what to do with it. However we don't do sugar, do you know if there is an alternative to all that brown sugar?
Markdowns are a great way to save $$$, lots and lots of $$$!
I just scored 99 cents/lb on hickory smoked spiral sliced ham. Yep, bought a huge one and am going to learn to can it for the very reason you mentioned… lack of freezer space.
Yesterday I found large cartons of half and half for 99 cents, too.
Score on the cards to celebrate Resurrection Sunday!
Looks like you and your mother had a very blessed time together 🙂 Continued blessings to you both.

I am a vegetarian, HOWEVER, the breaded chicken on the cabbage looks fabulous. I'm going to try it, using tofu slices instead of chicken. FYI, freezing tofu twice turns it into a very close to chicken texture & tofu absorbs the flavors of what you cook it in. This should turn out delicious! Thanks for the inspiration! 😊

As always, thanks for another phenomenal post. Just got through making some dandelion jelly yesterday… Tastes to me a bit like apple jelly, but talk about in season and cheap.😊 The only thing you could count as an expense was the organic cane sugar I used.
