hi todd! my mother was raised on manwich and she sent me on a quest to find a prefect recipe so our food stays out of bpa cans. here is the best i have found:

    1 tbsp of tomato paste
    1 tbsp of yellow mustard
    ⅓ cup of water
    ½ an onion, minced
    ⅔ cups of ketchup
    1 lb of ground beef
    chili powder, to taste
    garlic powder, to taste
    olive oil, a splash
    salt and pepper, to taste
    worcestershire sauce, a splash

heat oil over medium high heat, brown meat – drain fat
add onion, cook til translucent, add garlic powder and tomato paste
add ketchup, water, brown sugar, mustard, chili powder, worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper
heat over med. for 13 minutes
    serve on a bun

both me and my mother love watching you two homestead and we aspire to homestead like you guys do! hope you enjoy the recipe!

    Sloppy Joes!
I usually add can of tomato soup, with some mustard (dry or canned), brown sugar, couple splashes of ketchup, and in any onions or veggies at this time, cook until thickens. Super simple!

LOVE IT! Back in the OLD days, 70's when I was in high school, lots of blue collar folk didn't have LOTS of food (like we do now), my girlfriends mother could squeeze blood out of a dime. She would make hamburger sloppy joe's and add normal seasoning, and then can's of baked beans to make them go further. I never had it until then, I was instantly in love. I couldn't get my mother to make it, but whenever I visited my friend, I requested those baked bean sloppy joe's.

I don’t can my sloppy joe mix but all I do is ketchup, mustard, onion , green pepper, salt and pepper, vinegar, brown sugar and a dash of bbq sauce
    And some shredded zucchini for
Extra veggies the kids never know 😁
    I just
    Keep adding stuff until
It tastes perfect let it simmer a bit and enjoy

    On a personal note:
Rachel; I'm thinking about you every day. My daughter is out of the Military now, a nurse, happily married with a daughter, and I can sleep soundly at night…finally. I know the stress/anxiety and just overwhelming dread you must be experiencing right now, and I wish I could give you a big hug. Concentrate on anything but the news, keep busy, make sure you're thoroughly exhausted before attempting to lay in the dark bedroom at night, and spend every second you can with your baby in case the orders come. I wish after all these years I had better advice to offer, but I don't. Love. Hugs. Prayers. All are yours. We're here for you Mother's to Mother's.

For sloppy Joes, I always season like spaghetti sauce maybe a little less oregano then add just a little ground clove, but I think I will look up that recipe mentioned by others.

Loving your videos! Quick question: with your 1870 shirts for sale—how do the sizes run? I am trying to decide between the L and XL. I am about 5'9", about 165 lbs and I like my shirts to be a little loose. I'm going to get the long sleeve but would like your advice on the size to get.

Last year I purchased The All New Ball Book of Canning and Preserving. It has a really good sloppy joes recipe…I think I made 4 or 5 batches of it. Great way to use excess pepers and onions.
