Here’s how I cook a whole frozen chicken in my Instant Pot!

Ingredients:

1 Whole Chicken with giblets removed (mine was 5lbs)
1-2 T. of cooking oil
1-2 t. salt
1/2 t. black pepper
1/2 t. onion powder
1/2 t. garlic powder
1/4 t. smoked paprika
1/2 t. dried thyme
3 garlic cloves (optional)
1 lemon, sliced (optional)

Cook on Manual setting for 10 minutes per pound (mine was 5lbs so I cooked it for 50 minutes). Let NPR for at least 10 minutes. Optionally, broil 3-4 minutes per side on a foil lined pan to crisp up the skin. Strain and save broth from the pot for soup or other recipes! Enjoy!

Good video. I've had my 6 qt for almost a year and have been meaning to ask a question about natural release. If you plan to use a natural release, do you have the "keep warm" button off? I've noticed that it can take a very long time for the pressure to drop if the keep warm light is on. No one has made mention of it in any of the videos I've watched.

I tried this and the bones from the chicken were so soft I ate the entire chicken, bones and all. Now I'm addicted to eating bones, I even threw in a fish head and bones from a fish with my chicken and the taste was amazing. Who would have thought, chicken and fish head stew!

Always add lemon at the end. If lemon is present during cook time on the stove in a Crock-Pot in the oven or in a pressure cooker it's going to cook bitter. Zest is okay but use the juicy slices at the end and it will be a much better result.

I accidentally cooked a frozen chicken in my oven with the giblets inside a bag and the diaper still on. I just never thought of it! It actually came out delicious and I discovered the giblets in the diaper. I thought how stupid are you? And I decided not to beat myself up and have a delicious roast chicken meal. Nobody will die if you are they able to get the giblets out or the diaper off. ๐Ÿ™‚

Greetings from Northern Ireland. I love your videos and your explanations and personality. Many thanks ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ

I think it would have been worth mentioning the hygiene issue with fowl. Cleaning must be extremely thorough when handling fowl…anything it touches, your utensils and hands.

I am a little shocked at your lack of sanitary measures with raw chicken. Some bacteria now present in super-market chicken is antibiotic resistant and can be life threatening. After touching raw chicken and before touching spice containers or anything else, it's good to use hand sanitizer and then wash for 30 seconds with antibacterial soap. Cutting boards, and any surface or implement that touches the raw chicken should also be sanitized, and then thoroughly rinsed or ran through dish washer cycle. There are more dangerous bugs out there now than those our parents and grand-parents had to deal with, it's smart to be proactive in preventing serious illness. (Saw a Dr. of infectious diseases who contracted a deadly bacteria through cooking a chicken at home and spent months taking a high-powered intravenous anti-biotic – it almost killed him.)

Hi. Have you ever tried using the searing function on the instant pot to crisp up the chicken? I bought a larger, different brand of pressure cooker, and it does a great job frying crispy bacon, and searing a roast before cooking. I was thinking it might work as well for crisping a chicken after cooking it. What do you think?

Looks good apart from the anemic skin when it comes out of the instant pot. I guess if you are not eating the skin though it does not really matter.
Looked better after the broiler time.

and don't forget. when you are handling the chicken and then the bag, make sure you clean up all the chicken bacteria you have just transferred all over. nothing fun about getting sick from salmonella

Being able to cook a frozen chicken is appealing. But, the actual time would be 10 min to get up to pressure, 50 min for cooking, 10 min depressurizing, another 10-20 min under broiler. For people who work outside the home, I think it can be useful. Not, sure yet If I think it would be for me. I'm still on the fence.

the top is not good. you just burned all your seasoning. you can't just plonk it down on the top of the chicken and pray that it works. instant pot is great at many things, but roasting chicken is not one of them.

Great video! Thank you. I just bought my pot yesterday and this is exactly the type of thing I want to use it for. Also, thanks for the broiling tip at the end!
