Best of luck in your new venture! I've been food gardening in the subtropics for 30+ years and it's been lots of fun, though not without challenges. You will find that many of the northern and European vegetables that need a cool season won't grow there, but there are many substitutes to explore, for example Asian long beans instead of green beans, Malabar spinach instead of leaf spinach, bunching onions instead of Spanish onions, yuca instead of potatoes, etc. If your climate is subtropical with at least 3 months of cool weather in winter, you may be able to grow some of the faster-maturing crops then. (Forget about garlic, though, it needs a long cold spell.) In fact, winter is our main growing season, it's just too hot and humid to be working outdoors in the summer, and even so-called warm weather plants like tomatoes go into heat check anyway. As for pests and diseases, you will mostly be fighting insects and fungal diseases. The easiest course is prevention by using seeds that are bred to resist them. Though not ideal in terms of organic, non-hybrid seeds, it's better than losing your whole crop. I would also suggest looking for seed sources that are specific to your climate, you will find tons of pepper, eggplant, leafy green and gourd/squash varieties that you never heard of. Some of my favorites are asiangarden2table, Kitazawa Seed, Caribbean Garden Seed and Seeds of India. Enjoy!

I think you and Derrick are blessed to have each other. Both of you work so hard on your home and future. He's so skilled and remarkable. I can't help but think how my life could have been so much richer with a husband like him 30yrs ago.

I enjoy watching whenever you post. I appreciate that you take time out of your busy life to share the way you can live your plant based life. (I especially like technique vs recipe 🙂
I have been trying to find way to cook and eat for myself for years and this is by far the best and easiest way to eat plus I LOVE the food and I consistently watch your channel. Like others have said, your authenticity is refreshing and I am super excited for your new move. Thanks also for sharing your challenges with perfection. It's ok, you are perfect just the way you are!!! I think the Disney Movie Encanto says this best. We are all perfect just the way we are. Thanks again for sharing, whenever you can, I will watch 🙂

I can only find Westsoy at Walmart and noticed the last time that they've changed to Westlife and the container is more blue now. I hope that helps! Thanks to you both for sharing your lives us. It's always a joy, no matter how long we have to wait.😂 😂😂

Westsoy updated their cartons. They were gone for a bit at Walmart, but I bought some last week.
Love the videos! I am so excited for your move.

Missing Westsoy in our part of the globe, too. We have since been buying PLENISH SOYA M*LK UNSWEETENED – 2 ingredients only for their soy m*lk – organic soybeans and water – just like Westsoy. All of their other m*lks contain a pinch of salt, so just 3 ingredients.

Hi Hannah, I’ve seen Derek struggle with acne a lot and I have too for years. I FINALLY figured it out! I cut out all gluten and all my acne went away in a few days! I tried googling it but found nothing. I think it’s really worth a try! 😊

Stress can fuel growth & resilience, pushing us to adapt & overcome challenges, while anxiety erodes well-being, trapping us in a cycle of worry & fear. Embrace stress as a catalyst, but manage anxiety for balance.

This was a lot of fun – and such beautiful meals 😀 glad to hear that you're trying to let go of the perfection; it's certainly something that can be hard to do in any realm, and something I find challenging personally, so I appreciate the candidness 🙂 thank you so much <3

I like the realistic content more then the "picture perfect" content.

I want to do everything at home. Being perfect isn't achievable for me. So….great content and thank you for the recipes 😊
