As someone who has struggled with this issue my whole life…this is IT…this is the issue. Boredom, feelings, stress, anxiety, wanting to celebrate with family – happy, sad, angry, grieving and yes, your period — it all plays into why we – no matter how strong we've been in the past, can fall down and binge and overeat. I have done it all and over the last four years pretty much Keto and intermittent fasting…currently I do One Meal a Day.

I can be "game on" for months, then something happens..the feelings, or the stress, a bad day, a comment, a friend maybe slighting me, or getting angry that I can't just have a freaking chocolate chip cookie, who knows ANYTHING can set 'it' off and I can blow it and struggle for three days, five days whatever. I was 5 pounds from my goal weight and a few months into the pandemic and BOOM…back up. Honestly. after living with this my entire life I believe it's a 'brain' thing (that might have a lot to do with hormones in both the brain and in the gut) …and of course years of restricting and binging has just led me to disordered eating, binge eating, yo-yoing – call it what you will.

Five weeks ago, I started Wegovy injections …not only am I losing weight because I have a strong background in the weight loss "game" (Years ago in my 20s I went 3-5 years without eating flour or sugar) I think you can only fight mother nature for so long before our sheer 'will power' fails and you stumble, fall down and struggle to get back up and repeat…the yo-yo is real.

On Wegovy I am experiencing peace around food for the FIRST time in my life… and I am no longer binge eating. I'm not saying it's a magic shot, you could still choose to eat unhealthy and overeat but I believe for those who are a little more self-aware of their struggles with food, they can use Wegovy for that little edge it seems to gives you to overcome overeating and binging.

I can't really explain it, you'd have to try it to see how you feel…but it's been like a huge relief for me. I'm losing much more slowly because I'm not doing low carb /keto but I'm doing mostly one meal a day and because I feel I can eat what I want without binging it's a game changer. Before if I ate sugar or bread I was off and running…and if whatever I ate was was still in the house it would call me until I just ate it all…until I could eventually regain my will and try again and again and again.

So, I started at the beginning dose of Wegovy 2.5 for 4 weeks. Then you go up to .50 on week five…I took my first .50 shot on Thursday and was down 9 pounds…today is Saturday. On the .25 dose I was fine, the .50 has made me a bit queasy, but the peace in my head is just more important now.

Anyway, I'm cutting and pasting a simplified explanation of how it works: Wegovy is a once-weekly injection of semaglutide, which is a medication that boosts levels of glucagon-like-peptide (GLP-1) in the body. GLP-1 is a key regulator of weight and blood sugar. It helps to suppress appetite through the brain, and it slows stomach emptying to increase the sensation of fullness.

You'd have to talk to your doctor, but from what your journey sounds like…it sounds a lot like mine. I think you should research Wegovy, talk to your doctor and maybe give it a shot (no pun intended!) LOL.

Jess, best of luck in whatever you do. I love your openness in discussing all the issues you're finding along your journey , how you're feeling, how you're coping..your ups, downs, struggles. I totally get it. Thank you!

May I recommend that you get enough rest while you're with your family next week. You'll have your own place, so you could plan to get in an afternoon nap each day. Being well-rested will calm your mind, and so will a quiet walk on the beach. If you take time each day to restore yourself, you will feel more relaxed and be better able to make food choices that leave you feeling good instead of down on yourself. I wish for you the very best holiday! 💖💞💕💕💕
P.S. On a long, solitary, reflective walk on the beach, the focus for your channel might just come to you.

I too have lost over 100 lbs. I recognize that like you, I want to eat my emotions. ANYTHING sweet or carbie lights my brain up like a Christmas tree. Do you follow Dr Cywes, the carbaddictiondr? He says it like it is.
I usually allow myself one day a month, this month it will be thanksgiving, but I eat whatever I want, I give myself permission. But it’s only ONE day.
Otherwise I intermittent fast, lean towards carnivore but occasionally have a salad or broccoli. I don’t snack at all or use any “keto” friendly processed foods. I don’t really track anymore. The scale doesn’t move much but my body composition is changing since IV started going to the gym. I don’t know what my goal weight is, I assume another 20-25 but I have a lot of leftover skin. I’m 63.
Hang in there Jess !! We are stuck with this struggle for life. We just have to manage it❤️

You are teaching us "real life"; keeping the weight off is the real journey. Living in our processed food society is hard. Living with all the craziness of what is going on in our society is stressful. I am a stress, bored, happy, sad eater. I am also down close to 100 pounds and have stay at this weight for a year, and that is okay. I am heathier. Right now I am working on losing just 10 pounds, when I reach that goal of ten pounds I will maintain that loss (like I did with my 100 lb loss). This is not a race for me, I don't weigh myself daily or even weekly, once a month. But I do not have a channel to maintain with all the stresses that come with that, and my children are grown and out of the house. Meaning I cook only for me and my husband. I do lots of projects around the house to keep me busy, to keep my mind off of food. A few weeks ago I went on OMAD, eating at noon, it is working for me. No snack foods, no processed foods, if it is in a box, or a package, I don't eat it.(but again I am only responsible for me; no kids) I have kept with eating no processed food for 2 years. You are a great inspiration for me, you are keeping this weight loss off. Remember to circle back and go over the lessons of Dr. Fung and why we all started this journey. You are "real" and going through what we all experience, the roller coaster of weight loss, that is why I watch your channel. There is no happily ever after, we have to work for it. Love the hair. Sending blessings your way.

Just a suggestion: Put some effort into learning to go without the snacks (KETO or not) you don’t need them, they are only adding to your struggle. It would also be an invaluable thing to teach your kids.

Seems to me that you accomplished your basic goal, to rewind your health. Forget the arbitrary number on the scale. If you feel good, enjoy being healthier. We all benefit from you & your YT channel, even if your scale is not cooperating. 🙂

Hi Jess! I completely can relate to what you are saying. For the last six months I have been losing and gaining the same 10 to 15 pounds. It is so frustrating! You know what to do to lose weight, I know what to do to lose weight. You have worked so hard to get to where you are right now and you have inspired so many people. You are human please be kind to your self. Your struggle is our struggle. The fact that you are always real on this channel is Why people keep coming back. What you have to say is valuable. No matter what your weight is or how far away you are from your goal weight you are valuable. Give yourself some grace and know you are not alone. We are in this with you!

You are so wonderful! You are Generous with your spirit, energy, honesty and knowledge. You have inspired me to restart my journey to health. Ive watched you videos thinking “one day I’m going to do this” I may not be on the same page as you , but I’m going to start gradually making small changes that hopefully will snowball into big results as i add to them. Just got the bad news of degenerative/arthritic changes causing severe back pain for the past month. Started PT this week, Spinal Clinic today. Of course all this is a few months after retirement. I have the gift of time… for appointments , PT, rest, learning. We all need to be a little more patient with ourselves. I, too, get stressed out and get off track. I’m going to make short daily meditation a part of my change. Every little thing makes a difference. Looking forward to following your new adventures. Have fun with your family!!

PS YOur shorter hair beautifully frames your face. You look great!

My goal every weekend is to not gain weight. So happy when I am successful! Maybe you need to ditch Keto. I know it’s your platform but aren’t you bored and sick of it? Sounds like it. I have 65 pounds to lose. I am trying the Mediterranean Diet (not strict) but basically more fresh veggies and legumes! I eat Very little processed foods or sugar (no bars). Down almost 15 pounds in just over a month. Just an idea! I didn’t see that recipe. Hope you rock Thanksgiving!
