I have canned my own homemade marinara sauce and added cooked ground beef to the sauce when I make spaghetti for dinner. By not canning my sauce with the meat included, I don’t have to drag out my pressure canner and just use my water bath canner
Chili is always a quick meal to put together and fills you up as well. We can chili, spaghetti sauce and pulled pork for the pantry. We buy tomato sauce in number 10 cans and break it down to quarts and pints. Getting lazy in our old age to have a big garden anymore.
I started canning a while back. Your shelves look less filled at Walmart. Ken soaking and cooking from dry beans would have saved you from buying cans if you know how to soak. Meat is expensive at Walmart. I have a membership at Cosco. I started saving on meats and vegetables there. Large pot of chili.
Thanks for taking us shopping with you . I haven't been out in ages it seems . That is one giant thing of chili ! I try to buy my spices on bottom shelf and in a big container if I can . The bottom shelves are where to really look , but with the shortage that is disappearing too .
I canned chili with meat once before, but it had a very metallic taste to it when we opened several a couple of months later. Have you ever run into that?
I'm not sure if I'm right here (I'm pretty sure someone might correct me in the comments) but canning isn't something I've come across here in the UK. I'm very curious about it so I'll definitely do some researching into it. If I batch cook, I'll generally freeze it so canning seem a good alternative option. It seems times are tough all over. Here in Britain food prices have increased, energy costs have sky rocketed and just the general cost of living has risen far beyond annual wage increases. Families that just about kept their heads above the water are now in dire need and food banks are reporting record highs of people visiting. I remember reading an old Chinese curse. "May you live in interesting times." That's certainly the case at the moment.
Thanks for taking us grocery shopping with you. I am such a creature of habit in the grocery store that I don't always look around for things I haven't tried, like canned pulled pork and roast beef. I just added those to my shopping list. Love your videos!
Get your supplies NOW because last year you could not find it in mid summer when all the produce was ready for canning, Good video. MY pasta shelf is always sparse at Wally World. Beef is really high. I buy organic grass fed. THat is a huge pot of chilly.
Appreciate the inventory and price checking. About the same, as it is around here. BTW, I also go shopping as early in the morning as possible. And refuse to do self-checkout, even though I'm often forced to stand in a long line. Every self-checkout line means either someone lost a job or someone can't be found to do the job. Good looking chili!!! Tip: When pressure canning you don't have to sterilize the jars first. Just have them warm when doing hot pack. The process of pressure canning, itself sterilizes the jar and the contents of the jar, at the same time.
Thank you for taking us along to Walmart. A couple of Walmarts near me are always crowded, not always well stocked and certainly do not look as clean and neat as yours, Ken. Lol. I never buy meat at Walmart. 1 or 2 days ago I read that they had a ground beef recall, also their prices are higher than supermarket prices for meat and poultry even with all the increases.
Nice video Ken. The shelves are pretty well stocked here in central Pennsylvania. Prices are high. Double and a little more on some. I don’t do self checkout either. I already have a job. Im not working for the grocery store too.
For the last year and a half the only Aldi within walking distance has had annoying stocking issues. A few days ago they were totally out of the big oatmeal canister and no 12 grain bread.. Other times it was frozen peas, egg rolls, flavored sugar free coffee creamer, whole milk. I find that at other stores it's only a really good sale that temporarily wipes out supply. Ken, you sure you're originally from Texas….adding beans to chili…? I like it but heck– not from Tejas myself, lol.
Yes sir here I. Southern Maine food prices are going up right along with fuel lumber and electricity. Our electricity has gone up over 50% in about a year. 2tim3:1.
I used to have a pressure canner, but it scared me to death and I was too afraid to use it so I got rid of it. Kind of regret that now! Wish I'd had someone to teach me how to use it so I wasn't scared of it.
Our Walmart in SW Mississippi is having supply issues as well, your Walmart actually look better than mine
Look for large and inexpensive chili powder in your hispanic food section. It won't bee Mccormick, but it's good, plenty, and cheap!

We are having supply issues as well here in 🇨🇦. Our Walmarts are usually more busy. But I love 💕 this videos Ken ☺️💛☀️ keep making em.

So very thankful that I learned this skill years ago. Please remind everyone to use safe canning recipes. Thanks Ken for sharing.
FAR or USDA offered classes in canning. I really don't recall which one, but I am sure it's out there under food preservation
Thanks Ken! Lately I've been thinking about canning and I never thought to get the jars from Walmart😁!
