I just purchased this fryer 11/20/2020. I have read comments from other sites and yours regarding the plastic smell. After I unboxed mine, I gave it a good look for packing things on the fan etc. I did see the cardboard and removed it. The directions suggest running the machine at 205 degrees for 20 minutes which I did and smelled the plastic smell. I figured it was due to being new. What I did was to run it through 3 cycles but increase the temp and time up in increments. After doing this I cleaned the basket and tray with white vinegar and then one final cycle for 10 minutes at 375 degrees. Each time I did the cycle the plastic smell decreased. After the last cycle the plastic smell is barely noticeable, I even had my wife stand about 6 feet from it while it was running to see if she could smell anything, (she has a good nose for odors), anyway she couldn't smell anything until she actually put her nose down close to the unit. So, I don't know if this matters or not but it seems to have worked for me. Thanks for your videos and I have subscribed to your channel.

I just got my Vortex Plus Air Fryer. The instructions say ' the first few times you use your air fryer you may notice a strong plastic smell. This is normal, non-toxic, and goes away quickly' You're suppose to run a few Test Runs to air it out. I just put it on my deck & ran 3 cycles and the smell was mostly gone. 1st night I made Grilled Cheese Sandwich, French Fries & Homemade Breaded Chicken Nuggets.👍 All were Very Good!!! 💞

A product should have accessories included that are appropriate for use in it. Kinda scary to have to randomly select what will fit concerning safety. The people using these are primarily teens and not the well educated chefs.

Thanks John! Bought one today. Should have found all the guides before I did anything. Just found the cooking time table PDF. Should have tracked it down before I tested a frozen pizza. Oh well, live and learn!

I have a question about instructions on the vortex recipes I have looked at. I see things like “place rack in middle or highest position.” What the heck are they talking about?

    Hi Jelly007,
I received this fryer for Christmas 2020 and really hadn't known too much about "air fryers" although a good friend of mine said his wife had one and used it all the time and loved how it cooked things. Had no plastic smell with mine and I've used it for french fries and chicken so far and have been pleasantly surprised how well and easy it cooks things to very good results in my opinion…. I'm subscribed and enjoy your videos, keep up the GREAT work for us all.

Thanks Doug for the tip about the arrows. Thought it had to be something I was doing wrong. Just got mine this week and already love it. Yes i too will be looking for accessories for it. Brought the same brand and the 6 qt Plus with dehydrator.
No instructions for the dehydrator but will keep looking. Thanks again for the wonderful video and info. Oh yes I saw the cardboard and removed it right away before I used. Had no plastic smell when 1st used.

I admire your judgement and your videos but I disagree with you on the matter of lift out baskets 1:44 If you are limited in your appliances and only have one air fryer and you want to cook say burger and fries or chicken and fries (well anything fatty with your fries) with the lift out basket there are no problems; lift your meat out with fork or tongs remove basket and shake out fries. However with plate style as you have here; when you shake the fries out the fat can seep out onto the fries. Where they were crisp and dry they become soggy and limp. Mind you the removable inner basket type have their problems. I had a Duronic for just over 12 months and as the warranty ran out the catch for the basket stopped catching making it dangerous to use.

I have the Vortex 6 Qt Instant Pot Air Fryer and I have only used it for four times. Recently I plug it in and set the time and temp with air fryer, when we press Start it immediately goes to End. Any suggestions?

It MAY simply just be me, ….. But, I think you're very wound-up, & definitely speaking too fast. Sadly, that causes anxiety in many people. Especially, those people who have PTSD. Thank you for the overall, general information about the Instant Vortex Air Fryer (6 quart). I'm going to go check right now for any packing material🔥 left inside this appliance. I just opened it two hours ago. 🕑 Have a very happy new year. 🎆 ✨ 🎉

Now, I did spot that cardboard. But it still created quite a smell that is still in my house after 24 hrs. It's starting to fade a tad now. I think…that it is maybe a sort of breakin phase? Hot metal coil, the metal housing, the plastic and electronics up in the top section. Heat rises?…
Hopefully and I sort of assume that this will l burn itself out. Now the chicken I cooked in it came out very nice! I do like it.
The smell wasn't real strong but it covered most of the house, smelled like a brand new burnt smell. :')

Well damn… I watched this video because there wasn't much instructions for this… Got a really bad plastic smell the initial test run and now just found the cardboard. Totally worth watching this video just for that alone. Hoping the smell is gone now.

Thats funny when we got our instant pot it took a couple of cooks to realize there was a paper around the internal "doughnut" heating element that was supposed to be removed before use. If your going to be a cutting edge company that develops new kitchen gadgets that are new to people maybe some innovative labels that are marked remove before use would be a good idea.

Hey John, I've got a couple of questions and wasn't sure how to contact you so I'll do it here and perhaps they will help others as well. 1) I've got the Vortex air fryer 6 and just noticed some of the coating is coming off the cooking tray. Do you know where I might get a replacement? Or is there something I can get that can be placed on the existing tray? 2) I've gotten hooked on cooking with the air fryer and I'm debating on getting another one. I'm undecided as to get another vortex 6 or go with another brand. Do you have a favorite air fryer and what's the brand? thanks, enjoying your channel. thanks

Thank you for mentioning the silicon tabs/clips that come attached to the tray. I don't have this particular air fryer but I have one with same tray design so I have been looking for videos to confirm if the tabs/clips were part of the packaging or not.

I just got it for this black friday. And I removed the card shown, but still got a plastic burning smell in the initial test run that even set off the smoke alarm.. Still getting that after couple of times.. Afraid the smell gets into the food. Planning to return it.
