Thank you for sharing. I've thought about doing keto to see if it will help my chronic pain. Keto vegan vs. Keto omni are world's apart, gotta love the stereotypical freak out vegans are known for. More salt please used to be vegan keto!

Hi, Mary. I just wanted to say thank you and offer encouragement. I eat an extreme anti-inflammatory diet due to my chronic health issues. We don't have a full picture of what's going on yet but I also have random allergic reactions to things I'm not allergic to. I have fatigue, muscle spasms, nerve pain, poor sleep, digestive issues, anxiety, etc. I had the allergy testing and am following up with my GP and allergist. But on my own, I tried an elimination diet and found what works for me. It's a weird feeling when you realize that the otherwise-healthy things you're eating on a daily basis are what's been hurting you for so long. I reported back to my doctors and they were surprised that food was having such an impact. Now we have a better idea of why I'm having these symptoms.

I try to watch my nutrition since I have to limit/avoid a lot of foods – that is my biggest concern for the long term. But I think once you know what works for you (and everyone should remember we are all different, health-wise), you have to stick with that. Like you, it has been a tremendous relief to get my life/energy/ability to work back by reducing inflammation. People who haven't gone through your pain cannot imagine what that is like. I wish you the healthiest you that you can be! (And thanks for reminding me about Chronometer – I had forgotten about them!)

Thanks for sharing this content, Mary! My partner also lives with chronic pain and they were on a strictly keto diet for a couple years, during which they said they had the lowest pain levels of their life, but that the diet was annoying to keep up every day for years. Now they do something similar to you, where they switch into a keto diet when they are having flair-ups and it seems to be working well for them. Glad its working well for you too!!

I'm surprised. I thought you had epilepsy, cos that's basically the only good reason to do keto. But if this works for you, it works for you. Just be careful about long term effects, cos you're doing something pretty extreme.

Kudos to you! I've been a big fan of Heavenly Fan for a couple of years. I do Vegan Keto often, for my own reasons. As you mentioned, many people equate keto with meat-based keto & can't see the potential for a healthier plant-based/vegan keto option that includes plenty of nuts, seeds, avocado, olives, etc. Haven't seen any research on plant-based/vegan keto either. Glad you are doing what works for you.

I have seen some vegan keto videos before, and they didn't look as healthy as your food. I believe it was a lot of beyond meat, and minimal vegetables. You actually had a lot of veggies, which was really nice to see. I love that you added your cronometer info as well. 🙂

Hey – just a heads up on the Ahtletic Greens freebies. According to a Q&A on their Amazon webshop they source their vitamin D3 from lanolin (i.e. this isn't vegan).

Just wanted to offer some thoughts as a someone taking the RD exam this fall. I def don’t know everything but from your nutrition breakdown I don’t think you’re going into ketosis with nearly 100 g carbs. Also excessive protein can be turned into glucose in your body if necessary. A true Keto diet is not something dietitians recommend for anyone long term other than some children experiencing seizures ( not that you’re doing anything unhealthy or long term) bc ketosis is basically a survival mode when we don’t get enough glucose. Our red blood cells and brain can only run on glucose or ketones. These diets are basically cream, butter, maybe some nuts. It heavily restricts protein too bc it can turn into glucose. I think you might just be eating a low carb diet. I could be wrong, you might be experiencing ketosis like symptoms like fruity smelling breath and flu like symptoms. What mass media thinks is a keto diet is typically just low carb rebranded. Nothing necessarily wrong with a low carb diet looks like you eat a tasty diet with a lot of variety and nutrients ! I think it’s great that you experiment with what feels good for your body and share that with others.
