Trileçe made me laugh when I had it in Kütahya 6 or 7 years ago! My niece still tried to claim it was TurkIsh! Pastel de tres leches was one of my late (Turkish) husband's cakes. Here in Tucson we make it similar to the previous comment. And we have been eating it Marimar'den çok önce! Local restaurants pipe whip cream topping on it – as nice as a wedding cake. Here it is often served with strawberry slices, cinnamon and sugar tortilla curls, a slight drizzle of chocolate or a slight drizzle of dulce de leche. In general, here dulce de leche is used in coffee or made with flan. For me, Pastel de tres leches has a comforting taste that is in uzun ömürlü süt. Thanks for the video! So many beautiful memories – I had to order tres leches from a local restaurant! By the way, I have also seen recipes and substituted coconut milk and cream of coconut in the recipe. You did spend a lot of time on the cake itself. I would like to try it sometime. I use just a simple cake recipe – similar to gelatin poke cake!
Thanks, been watching for years, both in Turkish and in English 😀

I love the anthropological anecdotes that pepper your videos. I've always found it fascinating, how language is literally a live historical record. You're very spot on with the soap operas. 😂 I'm 35, and they were very popular in our part of the world! (🇰🇪)

Hi Refika! the 3 leches refer to: sweetened and condensed milk, evaporated milk, and fresh creme and topped with whipped cream. The cake is super popular in Mexico (which is actually locaed in North America) but there are other countries in Central America that claim they're origin of the cake. Your recepie is amazing! I love the dulce de leche topping

For the dulce de leche you mentioned baking soda (in the beginning) and baking powder once.
I guess you meat soda, right?

    And one other question.
Did you make the dry baklava recipe video?

The story in the Americas of Tres Leches actually does have a "Turkish" origin. Spanish Jews escaping the inquisition arrived in the Ottoman Empire in the 1500's over time as they immigrated to places like Argentina, Cuba and Mexico the cake possibly was brought over by them. ( Can't be confirmed as it's folk history) That being said, there are a variety of recipes of Tres Leche in Latin America. Dulce the de leche is not typically a topping (except in Argentina) where Dulce de Leche is used in a variety of desserts. Typically the origins of the cake come with advent of the Icebox. Others say that during economic breakdowns fresh milk simply was too expensive to use by itself. Hence canned milks were cheaper and safer as they were naturally purified. The ability to make a cold cake made of many types of milk was often a Sunday favorite, for birthdays and religious events. In Florida it is still the most popular dessert introduced by Cuban immigrants the traditional recipe being three kinds of milks Fresh milk or cream, sweetened condensed milk, canned evaporated milk. Floridians tend to be purest with this recipe and often use whipped cream on top instead of dulce de leche. However, I've seen some bakeries use both. Those it's often called Milk Cake not tres leche. Thanks so much for you great video and story. I think alot of americans when hearing three different animals milk for tres leche did a double take LOL.

Dear Rafikas, thankyou for your deliciuos recipe. Im mexican, and I think this "tres leches cake" is originated here in México. We normaly use evaporated milk, mixed with condensed milk, and whole milk, no need to add sugar. And we cover it with whipping cream and suggar. But Im shure that your recipe tastes great.
