My grandmother made "suet pudding". There was a white sauce for it. I've never forgotten it. Never had a recipe for it but your video did give me some ideas of what she used in making it. ❤
My English aunt born in the 1890's always had a version she made for T-day. It wasn't fruity, more savory and dense, and not popular amongst us kids, or most adults. I always had a slice out of respect for my aunts efforts. She called it a Plum pudding, but could it have been something else?
Of note; Todays canvas is often treated with chemicals to prevent mold and rot. A food grade canvas, if available, would be safer or Linen.
Thanks for the post…👍👍 I will have to make this and a Ginger/Vanilla cream sauce..
Suet is available as bird food blocs in usa. But who knows what it's laced with. They don't really respect birds when bird food has notes "not for human consumption". That tells you its toxic.
My mother used to make plum puddings and she would steam the puddings in coffee cans. I made a few puddings myself and they are fun to make and really delicious.
My Grt Grandma was a cook for the Batenburgs & the Whitbreads, she always added a bottle of stout & Rum to the egg mix & a desert spoon of black Treackle to the dried ingreadients as well as mixed peel Sultanas & muscovy brown sugar & ground Almonds,The brandy was only poured over & ignighted!!
Where do I find the correct cloth? Can I make some out of cotton? Everthing on Amazon says "cheese cloth" or looks like the pudding would disslove. I might be ready to make this next year.
The Just Stop Oil people have no idea what they are asking for. There are billions of people living on the edge, who need fuel to cook and keep from freezing to death inthe winter, petroleum to make fertilizer to get crops from marginal land to avoid starving to death, and fuel for transportation to lift whole countries out of poverty and avoid the kind of economic collapse which really would cause mass deaths. Maybe they should stop gluing themselves to the roads and use all that energy study engineering or the sciences and invent alternative solutions for what we get from oil, now.
My wife is of German/Austrian descent and she uses many of the same ingredients to make fruit cake. I realize many people say bad things about fruit cake but hers is wonderful! Merry Christmas Jon!
About 40+ years ago when I was staying at my friends house thru the Christmas holiday her mom made “suet” pudding. I thought it was so fascinating and unique. It was so yummy. The spices that permeated thru my sinus’s was unreal. Unfortunately, I’ve never had it since BUT I shall now try my hand. Thank you
I'm originally from The Shetlands (Zetlands) coming to America in 1963, I was 13. We had relatives already in Detroit, Michigan, so that is where we landed. Christmas isn't Christmas unless you have a plumb pudding. We, of course, also had Christmas Cake, mulled wine, your typical Christmas fare. I love Christmas! The very most special time in the year. in our slices of plumb pudding, everyone who magically find a coin. I still have a huge penny from one Christmas pudding! It's Jesus Birthed Day, and EVERYONE is invited!
Well, it’s now December 2023, and Mr Townsend, if you should happen to see this, and to all, Merry Christmas and a Happy, Joyful New Years to you all. 🎄🎉🥳
Excellent!!!! I have a question!! can one tin mold with a top be also used???
Wow!
That plumb pudding is amazing!
It's like a cake!🤤
I have no way to boil a thing for hours. Would a crock pot with a rack inside work?
Perhaps we need to leave modern raisins in water for some time to let sulphur dioxide (preserver) go out.
I wish this were more of a tradition in North America the way it supposedly still is in the UK! It's really neat!
This is such a gross dessert. Britain has the most disgusting food.
What the hell is FIGGY pudding ????
I still make plum pudding, full of fruit much the same as mum did.

Christmas isn’t Christmas without Plum pudding in my family 🎄🇨🇦
no plums?
So interesting
I made one with dried cranberries and candied orange peel instead of raisins
It's a raisin cake. Pudding in America is like a custard.
"currents are just little tiny raisins" no, currents are different, but in the US, they sometimes call little tiny raisins currents. bah humbug
I've never even heard of this, outside of the Grinch. This was fun and informative.
Why did they stop making plum pudding?
It doesn't sound very appetizing does it I'll take a pass on that 🤢🤢🤮
Wonderful episode!
A small request: Please move the mic away from your mouth when you eat. Maybe I'm the only one, but I hate that sound.
Boop!
I would eat the whole thing
If anybody remembers when Agatha Raisin made her Christmas pudding, This will make you smile. (M.C. Beaton series)
Where in hell are you buying suet?
