Your story has brought back my childhood memories too. It is similar to mine.Decades ago when I was a kid my Grandmother would bake cake and bread pudding in a huge aluminium rice pot . She would place the lid and keep it on a coal fire sigri and place live coals on the lid as well. Those were the yummiest cakes and bread pudding ever made. I'm drooling over the thought of it. I too began my baking journey without an electric oven . Started my baking in a cooker. Now I do my baking in an electric oven. But my Grandmother's hand had all the magic.
Thank you for sharing your mom's recipe.
    Merry Christmas ๐ŸŽ„โ›„

Hi aunty can I have piece ? Very interesting story . We were the same but we used to go to the baker shop and you pay I think 25 cents per pound of cake . Waiting for the recipe . One question ! Why you are beating the eggs over the warm water and not just like that ? Never see or heard about that before . God bless

Wow! That's an amazing story, yes it brings back memories of childhood days Christmas in Guyana, I believe a lot of Guyanese moms have baked the same way because very few people were privileged to own an oven. We had very little but it was so good and highly appreciated, nowadays people have so much but the appreciation and respect for what they are privileged to isn't there.
    Beautifully cake ๐Ÿฐ

You are so ready for the Christmas Season dear, your delicious cake brought back those same memories of many moms baking in their firesides at Christmas time. After fireside baking my dad decided to make my mom a brick oven, then our our home became the house where neighbors and friends would gather with their ingredients to bake. Your mom's story was so sweet, sometime I see videos of villages in remote areas in India and they cook and bake like our old time way. Peace and Love for the Holiday Season again GODS' Blessings to you always
