My cats won't eat homemade cat food. I got tired of buying expensive meats and vitamin supplements, only to have to throw it all away because they won't eat it. So, they get Fancy Feast and Special Kitty wet food, both of which they like and eat. I wish I could switch them to a more natural diet, but I guess you have to start when they're kittens.

My dogs has allergies and now a disease called IBD. So like 2-3 months I have to cook for him… lots of moisture and a novel protein.
So potatoes/sweet potatoes/carrots boiled and I smash them together and put either light tuna or an egg on top… the only issue is I never know how much to serve….dry food is easier in that regard

Kibble is terrible for dogs. Real food is best for people and dogs. Rarely do humans eat a perfectly balanced diet and we are generally healthy if the foods are healthy and un processed. We can add vitamins. I believe the same is true with pet foods. I use onlyvet created supplements

I’ve been making homemade dog food for about 15 months now. I will never go back to kibble again! We were getting ready to put down our now 12 year old German shepherd. He could barely walk or get out of bed. Switched him to homemade food and within 3-4 days he was walking better than he had in several years and is still doing great. My vet told me not to make homemade food. Don’t need to go to the vet now 😂

I live in rural Mexico and all the dogs are fed on scraps and tortillas. Literally all. I rescue dogs in can't afford dog food very much but every week we go and pick up scraps from call the meat places and they're super we usually cook that with some type of green. But I'm the only person that actually

I've more or less decided to never have a dog or cat because raw meat really grosses me out.

My main concern is safety…if you're immunocompromised, this isn't a good idea. Also, random supermarket meat is so unclean. Why is cooking the meat bad? I think it really does become complicated when you think of food safety… after you prepare chicken in particular (*shudder*), you just can't fully sanitize your kitchen.

Ofc there is freezing, but it's not perfect. How do you avoid parasites? Yes, their digestive systems are better at handling these things than we are, but not as well as a wild animal.

You/We focus on balanced as a complex formula. Man has interjected his bias into pet food. Pets will survive on spoiled food, good food, no food and card board soaked on oil. Food does not need to be perfect everyday. The biggest problem is too much fat, my opinion; in nature there are very few fat animals out there. Most live on the edge or they eat appropriately – do not store toxic fats. Agree just be aware and feed variety and it’s okay to skip meals. Just keep it Whole Foods and zero pup cups…

I thought this was going to be a video lecturing us on why kibble and cans are the only thing they should eat because vets ( taught so by manufacturers ) say so. I was going to tell you off. Haha i don't even cook for my dog, i just know commercial pet food is crap. She gets supplemented with " kitchen scraps". Egg, meat, liver, fish

My cats are on a raw diet (mostly rabbit) basically their whole lives (they're 15) but they love kibble as a snack. I buy dr. Marty's or wysong dream treats but they're happy to eat the cheap crap too. They really don't seem to care about what they eat much, but I do so I get them what I think is best.
When they were young their vets weren't thrilled about the whole raw food concept but seems like it's catching on with time and recently a vet said that as long as there's organ meat in there it's a complete diet and there's no need for a supplement. I use sardines in water as a supplement for skin and coat as they prefer that to salmon oil.

Know that vets generally don't get much nutrition training in school and some classes they do have are sponsored by major pet food brands (we all know which ones sell their stuff at vet clinics) so they simply might not know stuff.

we just added a Dalmatian pup to our family & already had a doodle who’s allergic to chicken , so he eats Acana (fish flavor) kibble. I know kibble isn’t the greatest but there’s so much controversy on raw/homemade food & it seems to be so much pricier. Do you have any advice on a low purine diet ? Dalmatians can’t have organs or any other high purine foods.

I've cooked a variable meal of rice, chicken, milk, eggs, fortified yeast flakes, small amount of MSG, broccoli, corn, and lentils in a pressure cooker for like 10 years now. They still love it, they are all healthy and all have perfect weight. Thing I noticed was that RAW was not really any better than cooking it for them, as stomach acids just chemically cook the food anyway and no one has adequately explained why cooking makes it any less dis-solvable in stomach acid then not cooking it. Plus, bones get very soft if you pressure cook them, they no longer pose a choking or splintering problem, they are so soft you can crush them with your fingers, plus all the collagen gets extracted. Oh and some stuff I add after I cook, like flax oil. Their coats are so soft LOL!

my mum's dog was raised on a raw food diet, but for some reason he started to get an upset stomach from it after he grew up? so now he eats a mixture of premium kibble and homemade meatballs. 😀 no added salt or spices of course.
