I just got my Instant Pot Duo Evo Plus so I'm a newbie. I have tried in on the traditional pressure cooker so this is amazing. I agree her presentation is amazing. I tweaked her recipe a little based on our families recipes. I added aje cachucha, a little tomato paste, vino seco, and culantro. This was my first go around in this pressure cooker and i tried the bean setting but it wasn't enough to soften the black beans. I went and cancelled the settings then went into the manual setting for 30 minutes to test this out and added one more cup of water. Our family likes more of a bean juice so i'll probably mush more that a cup. I can't wait to taste these beans!!

First I'd like to say you give GREAT instructions and tips. I followed your recipe exactly (except I did soak my beans…habit). I was so disappointed that I could taste the sugar/sweetness. Usually I taste as I cook, but with the instant pot method, I didn't taste the food until the end, so I'm not sure if it was the white or brown sugar that made this recipe a fail for me. I may try this recipe again without adding any sugar and if it comes out good (like I was so sure they would), I will update my comment.

The reason she hasn't ever found any small pebbles or stones in her black beans is because she primarily uses Goya brand . They are usually processed a lot better then some of the off Branded ones. Whenever I get the bags of dried beans from either ALDI or The Dollar Tree there is almost always A few pebbles Along with Many more broken beans. The Publix brand Usually is pretty good as well but when you consider that it's not much cheaper than the Goya black beans Sometimes it's worth paying a little more.

I’m confused as to why this does not have that many reviews/likes. Her presentation is amazing and I’ve had my pressure cooker for 4 years and just learned that you can adjust the sauté setting. This recipe is BOMB! Thanks for sharing this!

Looks amazing! I am looking forward to making it! Where is the recipe for the homemade sazon? I looked at the blog, but not sure I was looking at the right place. Does Sazon Goya make one without MSG?

Thanks for the recipe. I’m going to try it. I’ve always been terrified of the pressure cooker. My abuela had an accident way back in the day with it so imagine.
A few questions? You don’t use vino seco? Y hoja de laurel? I can’t make any of my Cuban dishes without them.
Also, are you an elementary school teacher? You give me those vibes. The way you explain. I taught elementary for 10 years so I recognize teachers.

    Have a wonderful day,
    Janet
