Maangchi ma'am, i tried following your recipe and it turned out so great!! I alter a little bit of your measurements based on my preference, like adding more pepper paste, lessening the pepper flakes because I think it will be too spicy for my family, i used corn syrup because it is much cheaper hehe, instead of using chicken breast I used chicken wings because we thought that it would be more fun to eat when deboning hehe. I also did not include cheese instead i used garlic mayo sauce because the dish is already salty thats why. But overall it turned out great!

My family really really liked it, its mouth watering even just by the smell of it.

Guys try it! Its a perfect dish for those who are not that good in cooking(not an insult). I think this dish will always taste good even if you kinda alter the measurement.

Thank you maangchi for such a reliable and delicious recipe!

    Much love from Philippines!!

I have made this recipe several times since discovering it less than a year ago. It is seriously addictive! The rice cakes are definitely NOT optional! Because they are sooooooo good! This was the first dish I'd ever had rice cakes in and I can't get enough of them now. In Let's Eat 3 one of the characters says it is good to eat spicy food when you are depressed or stressed because the heat makes you feel better (I'm guessing from the release of endorphins) and this dish proves that! It's super spicy (I used hot gochujang and gochugaru but they make mild) but also sweet and creamy from the cheese. It's just PERFECT! Thanks for sharing this Miss Maanchi ❤

Maangchi how do you clean your cast iron utensils afterwards? I always find myself having to reseason my cast iron utensil everytime i make this as the gochujang dried and sticks to the pan

I tried this dish tonight. I did an okay job on the first try. I used store-bought rice cakes and it might be better with homemade or without. Maybe I need to try this dish a bit more and practice it. But overall a very yummy dish.

I made this dish but made it low carb by replacing the syrup with liquid stevia and omitting the rice cakes. I’m not Korean and this is my first time tasting it so I have no way of comparing the taste to other buldak recipes out there but I’m very happy with it, and it’s a hit in my family. Will be cooking this more often, thanks Maangchi

Hii Maangchi!! I love your videos and I brought your cookbook I love it too. I have a question how to make tteokbokki with melted cheese, fried rice and fried egg. I just had it at a resturant and feel in love with it. I believe the rice was a type of mixed rice. Thanks ❤️

I made this!! I only made two servings so I cut the recipe in half and did reduce amt of chilli powder (no emergency room Maangchi!) and I made egg fried rice as a side – LOVED IT 🥰

Funny how they stole her recipe on the NY Times website and didn't even link to her video and are trying to charge to be able to view their page. You can get the recipe for free on her website.
