Still confused on the baking soda, lol! First you said 1 ½ tsp and then said you wanted to be clear and said ¾ tsp. But the recipe in the description box calls for ½ tsp baking soda. I love spice cake and would love to make this since it’s gluten free (I have celiac disease), but would you mind clarifying the amount of baking soda? Thanks so much! I adore you two and your new cookbook 💝!
That cake is called … depression-era cake or wacky cake. You need to mix your dry ingredients in one bowl and all of your liquid ingredients in the other. I also would advise using a little mess strainer with the baking soda to make sure that there are no lumps. The proportion is always one teaspoon baking soda with one tablespoon vinegar . Or two baking soda to tablespoons vinegar . Make space in the middle of your dry ingredients and mix the liquid ingredients into it and mix it is fast as possible and get it into the oven quickly. To much time letting it sit on the counter is not going to make for a high cake. To make chocolate cake just add cocoa with cinnamon
Hey unlevening happens to the best of us from time to time even from ingredients past their prime or sometimes life gets busy we comeback to our recipe forget a important ingredient , and it happens,BLANK happens,(fill in the blank) lol! Yes I've been to the rodeo, can't say when I will return ,could be today ,tomorrow or even the next hour, lol!
I thought this was going to be from a box mix. Fresh is always best but if people are short on time, maybe just get a box spice cake mix and add a can or two of chic peas blended?
Thank you for all your recipes. Just made hummus from a recipe in your Plant based women warriors book. It’s so good and easy. Looking forward to making the spice cake!
Yum, what a cake 😀 so nice that you showed also the "mistakes" 🙂 I bet they still tasted very good 😀 always a delight to watch you two cook together 🙂 thank you so much <3
If the first flat cake still tastes good you could cut it into strips and re=bake to make spice cake biscotti. Thin out the lemon icing and then dip the biscotti in to coat one end.
What brand of maple Syrup do you use Jane?

can yuou use lemon juice in place of the vinegar???
My teen daughter made your lemon cupcakes this month, for Elvis Presley's birthday! She'd like to know if you two are Elvis fans. 🙏☺️
Here's the recipe for the frosting. Just remember to substitute lemon where the original recipe has lime

Cloves do grow in Hawaii, when out for a walk there one time I ran across a whole farm growing cloves. Dont know if it is a big industry over there.

Excellent Ladies!
I need to experiment with a silken tofu mousse version of my mom's favorite spice cake frosting: Cool whip mixed with peanut butter.
What’s the rush? Great recipes though.
