Sorry for missing last night's live again. This switching from grave yard work to day live is killing me. Anyway it was also killing me seeing just how dirty Johnny 5 was. How about giving it a good wipe down with some warm water and detergent? OK I feel better. So I'm trying to not give you grief about the lighter fluid, but it's so haarrrd. I think the solution is you need to make some custom charcoal chimneys. The other thing is I think you're using to much charcoal briquettes. In fact, I believe you shouldn't be using briquettes. You should be using lump charcoal on that cooker. Lump lights faster than briquettes. How many briquettes were left after the cook? Consider all that ash that is slowing down air flow through the unlit briquettes? And something else. That lid is nice, don't get me wrong. But I "grill" open, no top. It was how my grandfather taught me. When I got my first Webber kettle about 35 or more years ago I was surprised to have a lid. And I learned there are some things it works well with but not steaks, hamburgers or hotdogs. But that's just me talking. So I haven't noticed this before with J5 but I'm thinking you need some sort of extension that could hold the grill up higher above the coals. It would allow flare ups to occur without the flames to touch the food as much and room to add,subtract coals to your needs. That's why I like the Santa Maria still grill. So maybe if you could raise the grill some you could do that. Close the lid for storage and transport. And clean that lid,it deserves better 😁👍🔥🍻🌤. Dash have a great day.
