Oh that looks delicious. I love thyme too, my favourite herb. The stock cubes looks like OXO cubes, we use to get OXO stock cubes in South Africa, but not anymore. Hope you and Mike are feeling healthy again. Warm wishes. 🌻

Hi Mike and Jane. I commented on a question you had for Sunday's upcoming video and you asked what country I was from. I am from the United States and live in Hawaii. Love your videos and look forward to Sunday, Wednesday and Friday. I just learned about sausage and bean casserole about a week ago as a woman from the UK showed it on her channel. Jane, I love that you make good hearty meals while sticking to your budget.πŸ‘

Jane, I have to admit I wasn't super excited about the title of the meal today but after watching you put it together it looks absolutely delicious! I'm sure it had great flavor with all the seasoning and vegetables and tomatoes in there as well as all of the wonderful sides that you served with it. You definitely are a pro at making delicious and nutritious balanced meals on a strict budget. This week I was in my neighborhood grocery store for the first time in probably 5 years and it was nuts! Our offer ads come out on Wednesdays and I think every senior citizen in my area of town was in the grocery store at the same time. I was able to get a very good deal on 85% lean ground beef for only $2.49 a pound. There was a limit of 3 lb so I bought three and tucked it away in the freezer for some night when I want to make a meatloaf or use it in combination with Italian sausage to make meatballs or lasagna. To answer some of the questions you posted below, it is challenging with groceries. I live alone so I used to buy a lot of Frozen entrees that microwaved quickly and I would typically eat those for my dinner but those have gotten quite costly so I no longer buy those. I have also cut way back on snack foods and although I still buy some flavored Waters and some flavored water mix-ins, I don't buy any alcohol nor do I buy soda pop. Soda pop has got ridiculously expensive. I eat very simply and mostly will have a sandwich or a wrap with turkey and cheese or ham and cheese. I don't do much fancy cooking but now that the weather is cooled off, I will definitely cook more as I usually do in the winter. It gets me a good meal cooked and it also warms up the house so a double win! Hello to Mary and Dolly and thank you for such a wonderful video.

I think the Instant Pot is one of the very best inventions we have today. It's an amazing appliance for any kitchen. You can do all of the cooking for this yummy dish in your Instant Pot. Just use the sautee function. T I use the veggies leaves too. They are delicious. Thanks for sharing πŸŽƒπŸ‘»πŸŽƒπŸ‘»πŸŽƒπŸ‘»

I make a similar dish with 1 pound of bulk pork sausage, but I use more liquid with tomato sauce & diced tomatoes and add small potatoes. We call ours Sausage Stew and add cornbread on the side. Isn't it wonderful that we can all get ideas for frugal meals and subtract or add based on one recipe?

That looks absolutely delicious Jane. It is one of my favourite meals. I like the beans but I often use tinned lentils in place of them, oh and veggie Lincolnshire sausages. Thanks for sharing Jane xxx

I've never had a desire to have an instant pot or air fryer I know a lot of people like them but I have limited cabinet or counter space. I quit putting beans in my chili my daughters would pick them out. I remember one year my mother made chili for Christmas Eve and she mashed the beans up thinking they would not notice them but they would not eat the chili so it was best for me to leave them out and I still don't use beans when I make chili. For my oldest daughter it is a texture problem she will drink tomato juice but will not eat tomatoes so basically no fruit or vegetables except for potatoes

In your previous video, you said that you dont do the meal planning like you used to, and cant really afford meat, so building your meals around potatoes and pasta…carbs in short. Can you share how you manage your food budget now? thank you.

It looks delicious. I use loose sausage when I made mine and two cans of beans. I think the recipe I use has too much liquid but I'll use cornstarch and water to thicken it. I stopped using carrots for whatever reason I don't know but will add them and mushrooms the next time I make this. One of my husbands favorites.

Oh yum! That looks delicious – I have some chorizo type sausages needing to be used so this looks like the solution! Tinned mushrooms are not common here in Australia but I recently bought some bargain mushrooms that were still really fresh but that would not last long. I cooked up the lot and froze them in small portions and what a game changer! I've added some to pie filling, to pasta sauce – definitely will keep doing that, even with small amounts because tossing sad mushrooms in the compost is like throwing money in the bin! Thanks Jane – you are inspiring me to think outside the square!!

Yummy, I made one of these last week and have a couple of portions in the freezer for those nights I want an easy home made ready meal, will only have to do the mash as I add peas, onions, mushrooms, carrots and peppers in at the beginning.

Going to make this soon. I was thinking that it would be good over rice or even pasta as well. Bacon and onions makes the house smell divine, doesn't it? We are down to freezing temperatures here, so the wood heater is on all day, would it be ok to slow cook this?

Lovely video Jane and Mike. Will try it this weekend but in a slow cooker as I don’t have an Ip and will add some parsnips instead of mushrooms as they need using up. Will cook it on high for a few hours and check on the veg to see if cooked. Will also freeze it as you did. Congrats on the increased subscribers and best wishes on getting better. Remember to let the ads roll everyone.
