Oh no! I'm so sorry! I love tulle (black or green) and I made a dome over my chickens and that kept them safe until I just built an enclosure. Good luck with that!! What an amazing life you're giving your kids. I see those bare feet, fully clothed kids in the pond, playing with kitties, dogs, chickens, diggers… happy kids, happy life for sure! Glad Freddy came home. 🙂
Your little guy is so adorable!
awww, so sorry about the chickens and Freddy. We once had a cat that disappeared for 2 years and then one day came back. No idea where he was or what happened but suddenly he was home and lived to be 18 yrs old! SO hopefully Freddy will return.
Boys and their toys!
Nothing excites a real man like heavy equipment…mine would be having a blast! Hi, Charity! Nice to meet ya, nice job on the chick rescue!
Levi, the tiny carnivore. When he said the chicken looked yummy I laughed and laughed. Sweet deal with the excavator, love the barter system. It's the oldest form of wheeling and dealing and a homesteading must.
So glad the cat came back! Your homestead is looking great!
So happy that Freddie came home!!!! 😍 🐱
Every chicken owner I know has lost chickens to bobcats, coyotes, mountain lions, etc. In the midwest my grandparents' chicken coops were all indoors. Here in the Socal desert, friends' chickens are in large caged coops, sometimes with uncovered areas where the chickens can come out during the daytime when people are around. Others are in the barn at night, in covered areas during the daytime. Farmlife is lots of work, but we grow so much in life when we work hard and experience difficult situations. Your kids are getting good life experiences that so many kids miss out on. Loved seeing Levi and Daddy enjoying their big boy toy!!! 😁 ❤️
I miss farm life. I grew up on one.
Congrats on your new cookbook.
Sending prayers for Freddies safe return.
Sending Hugs
So happy that Freddie came back! I wonder if she got scared by the sad fate of the feisty chickens? I don't know how chickens get along with new bunkmates but you could get more if you'd want to I guess. I wish I could help you with proven techniques for keeping your chickens safe! Kudos to Charity for saving your chicken! The tiger in her made that hawk go away! I guess you could put a "roof" over their yard with netting. Maybe ask the person you got the first ones from what she does! My absolute very very best wishes to all of you including all of your new animals and not forgetting Po!
So sorry about your chickens. I almost got teary eyed when Freddie came back.🐱❤️
My daughter and her hubby have been dealing with them dang gone hawks! Life on the farm is not always laid back. <3 memehcg.
Very sad about chickens. Once again, Levi makes me laugh. How exciting for him on the big machine. He’s so doggone cute! I love your entire family. Your life is very interesting to me. I grew up in a city, therefore I’m so interested when you come on with new information. Loving all of the keto cooking too. I am new to Keto, 6 mos ago. I love it. Much healthier way of eating. I am 74, lost 23 lbs. so far. This change is great for me since I have RA. I feel like a new person because inflammation is now gone and I’m the one managing my health. Seeing my primary care doctor in a couple of weeks. I can’t wait to see how my blood work turns out this time. It was never horrible but I’m excited since I’ve changed so much in my life with regarding my food. So happy your cat returned. Wow, best news of all why you were blogging.
Have you considered bird netting attached onto the dome? It’s usually used to cover fruit trees so birds don’t eat the fruit, but I once used it successfully to block pigeons from roosting on my stone balcony (to them it looked like a rock outcropping, perfect for nests – note the fake owl did nothing against pigeons). It would provide an actual barrier to getting to the chickens, but allow plenty of sun & weather to get in, just as if there wasn’t anything up there.
So glad that Freddie came home….the ending of the video with Levi and Dad is so precious brought tears to my eyes.
What a beautiful homestead# a little jealous here. Without giving away too much what part of Oregon do you live in? I live north of Salem. So sad for your chickens. And I hope your kitty comes home soon.
A rooster is always a plus. They keep an eye on the sky. In the meantime get your dome covered with bird netting. The hawks won’t risk getting tangled in that.
Get a fake hawk to put on the fence
Would a goose help?
Our Livestock Guardian Dog (LGD) has attacked 3 Hawks that have dive bombed chickens.
Hi Indigo Sorry for your loss. Have you seen the Twin Cities Adventures UTube Channel. His name is Jason he has an amazing Chicken Coop. You might want to check out his Channel. And get some Info on how he made this Amazing Chicken Coop.He also does Instant Pot videos mostly Cheesecakes.
I was more sad about the potential loss of Freddie, than the smaller chicks. Glad Freddie is safe and back home to get lots of hugs and love🥰
I heard somewhere recently that keeping a goose with your chickens is a good idea. They are supposed to be very protective. Sorry you lost some of your flock.
Your kids playing on the farm warms my heart, so awesome.
I love watching kids making happy memories 💕
I'm sooo glad Freddie showed up! I was wanting chickens, but we got coyotes instead, sigh.
Too sad about the animals. I know that's part of farm life but it makes me sad. Especially Freddie. I bet your mom was worried about him. Glad he returned.
Levi is the sweetest 💙
Can you lay netting over the PVC pipe? We had chicken wire over the top of our chicken yard. Worked great.
Oh my, I don't miss farm life!!! After 25 years we sold it and moved back to town…. But I loved it and was a great way to raise our boys. And boy~do I miss all the meat😬
That is so sad about the chickens and a happy ending for Freddy. Thank you God. Levi seems to be flourishing living on the farm. So much excitement he has and enthusiasm. He’s so cute.
I am so in love with Levi!
Peacocks are good hawk/predator deterants as well
So sorry too hear about the chickens. What a terrible way to die. Glad the cat came home.
What an idyllic life your children have because of the way you are raising them. The video of Levi with his dad on the excavator made me smile. Such a lucky boy!
