Contrair, ketchup originates from English sauces made most commonly with mushrooms i believe, asians then made a similar thing but using fish because they had fish, the name is also from then. Then in the west it transformed into a more sweet rather than savoury sauce. The interesting thing is how many greatly differing sauces must be all over the place that could equally legitimately be called ketchup.

There's a few Korean sauces that use ketchup. No shame there. 소야 (sausage & veggie stir fry) and 떡 꼬치 (fried rice cake skewers) are the two main ones that come to mind.

A friend of mine had me over when his parents were making bibimbap. I saw a lot of sour ingredients go in, they reached for something, realized they were out, and said something in korean, which my friend translated to "I thought you were going to make that?" "I thought you were" "Crap, this'll be unbalanced, what's something sweet we can put in?". We didn't stick around in the vicinity of the kitchen long enough to hear the end of the discussion, but the dish we were served had some half-melted mint chocolates. Surprisingly good.

I really like how you included the meaning of this dish andwhat it is within its context, it's important for being confident in what your own recreation of a thing is in relation to the original and i don't always find that

There is no respect for Korean tradition; this should not be called bibimbap. The ingredients and method of cooking do not fit in with this dish. Please call it something else or call it southern bbq rice BOWL WITH KIMCHI?! WHo puts Kimchi in their BIMBIMBAP HUHHH???? IM SO CONFUSED AND REpulsed lol. Felt like leaving a yelp review for this video and being an** about it.
Please respect traditional dishes and not make your own shwat up and call it "비빔밥"

For anyone looking for the next level of this dish, seek out “dolsot” bibimbap, which is the same dish served in a stone bowl that creates a crispy rice layer on the bottom, “nurungji,” that is one of the best and most classic tastes in korea. And some other highly recommended toppings: pickled radish, “gosari” or fernbrake, fried seaweed, hen of the woods or oyster mushrooms in sesame/salt, mini dried and salted fish, spicy pork 🙂

I have never felt that Adam talks down to viewers. This is something that feels prevalent among a lot of food youtubers when they use french terms, fancy equipment, and techniques one learns professionally. He is a home cook and recognizes that we all are too.

you can add any ingredient you think it suits with rice. it is totally fine. just mix with gochujang (you can even put any sauce) and sesames oil. give variation to your recipe to make your own bibimbap

I see many Korean-Americans and well, fellow native Koreans are commenting on use of ketchup in bibimbap and apparently not liking it? Imo Adam can do whatever he wanna do with the dish. He's not 'butchering up' the dish or committing blasphemy lol He's actually doing what we all do when we cook – adding an ingredient that would go well with other ingredients! He didn't say he's recreating an authentic bowl of bibimbap or finding the root of it. If it still offends yall bibimbap snobs, just, think of the case of sushi and california roll.

That beautiful restaurant bowl really needs better than plastic knife and fork. (It’s probably just me, but plastic-ware makes a different eating experience for me.) Nonetheless, I love this video. Also like the way you condense “I’m going to” down to “ahma.” 🤣
