Okay, so I watched this recipe video assuring myself that this would not be authentic and boy was I surprised. This is the most authentic recipe I have seen on youtube. All the people saying he forgot the cumin are wrong. I have never had rice with cumin unless I am eating at a Tex-Mex restaurant. The best part is that I learned that a mason jar can be used on a blender! I will now be making my salsas in a mason jar and storing them in the same jar. This is awesome!

That’s how my mom makes her rice and guess what she’s Mexican and her rice is the best! Sometimes she’ll purée tomatoes instead of using tomato paste but I personally like the concentrated flavor the paste gives it. Call me crazy but I think olive oil changes the flavor because of the smoke point. I use canola oil for this recipe.

HOT WATER IS WHAT REALLY CAUSES RICE TO COME FLUFFY, also you can add a pinch of Cumin and black pepper, some people (me) I add frozen carrots/peas, after you add the water!

If you rinse the rice before your rice won't be sticky. It'll be individual grains.

That's why you wash it. To get off the dust that turns into glue later in the cooking process

Never measure water to rice ratio's with numbers! Thats how you ruin rice. No matter how much rice you have, the correct amount of water is always to your first knuckle of your index finger. The only time this isnt true is when you are cooking sushi rice.

That’s good rice but it’s Chicano rice not Mexican rice. My grandma makes chicken stock and seasons it for the rice and she blends whole tomatoes she also frys onion and garlic with the rice than adds all the liquids.

I’m a sucker for Mexican rice and my mom could never make it. Never thought to YouTube it. Made it on my own and I’m impressed how accurate this recipe is! I never need to ask my friends moms to make me rice to go! ❤️❤️
