I think maybej just one packet of the onion soup mix instead of two would help with the salt as well. We used to make a stew in the crockpot that we called "Beef Dump" ( family name ) and I remember cutting the onion soup mix in half and just adding some extra dried minced onion and that helped a lot with the salt. It still tasted great!
