I used smoked paprika as well and some charcoal powder to make it look extra dark, put some rice and chicken strips on the side, and you gotta full meal
Black bean soup is great! I sometimes add a tiny bit of sugar to give it a more sweet taste, but the soup is fine on its own 😊
You had me up until you added "canned" beans. Never heard of a "chef" using can anything, but I could be wrong. Canned food is packed with sodium and other nasty stuff that is not very healthy. Beans are healthy and so is bacon because it's natural, and this beautiful nourishing soup became not so good anymore.

1. Why wouldn't I want more bacon? 😂
2. I use a mirepoix for my traditional why not here?
3. Why no acidity?
The spoon with a hole in it is used here in Switzerland for stirring cheese fondue. For some reason it is supposed to stir the cheese mixture better. As far as I know we don't use it for anything else.

Sometimes I use salt pork instead of bacon I use the rind and all . The rind gets soft and has I nice flavorful
Texture I cut it in two inch strips and by the way all cooking is therapeutic
If you don't want to use chicken stock you can use vegetable stock, it goes really well with bacon 🤣🤣🤣

Kick out the vegetarians LOL unless you obviously want to make for them a st yves fake bacon so they can feel included. But heck I had one time a heavenly lasagna and just before I put the sign Contains pork two non pork eaters had helped themselves to it twice!!! I just refrained from putting the sign up and let them enjoy their oblivion. Sorry folks.

Noticed a bag of Black Beans in the pantry. Soaked overnight I gave them a rinse, course chopped 1 1/2 large yellow onions, black pepper, oregano, cumin, red pepper flakes, 2 tps ea chicken & vegetable BTB Seasoning base, good shaka shaka garlic powder & 1 fire roasted dried poblano pepper. Cooked above for 45 min while shoveling snow, used immersion blender to thicken soup, blop of sour cream and I had a wonderful no meat meal. Oh, 1 bunch of green onions, whites at beginning, greens at end. Sweetness from onions was perfect.
There is a shortage of bamboo spatulas with holes in them now.
It's a key tool in making this soup right.
