I love the happy kid sounds, they crack me up! My nieces will always get a little louder and a little wilder when they are hungry 😂. The sushi cake looks stunning 🤩. And congratulations on the magazine, that’s so cool, and well deserved! Have a fabulous week, everyone!

Oh! And I only have soup for breakfast in the summers. Too hot here in Georgia. My family thinks I’m nuts for having soup for breakfast, but especially bean and lentil soups are so gentle on the tum, but packed full of nutrients. Keeps you going! In the winter it really helps to have some to take in a thermos for the 4AM animal feedings 🐄 🐎 🐓 🦆 🐕 🐐🦙

You are so right about the value of allowing kids to help with cooking! My daughter actually included her cooking/baking adventures she experienced as a child in her college applications. She included not only the practical knowledge she gained, ie how to cook for herself, measurements, conversions, etc, but also the generational and cultural importance that comes from sharing food experiences. I am an in-betweener…I have grown children and no grandchildren (yet!), so it just warms my heart to see you and your kids cooking and baking together! I know it can be much easier to just do it yourself, so kudos to you for making these experiences happen for your kids!

It was interesting to me that you feed your children first. Do you eat with your husband later? Do you eat the same thing or do you make separate menus? Since I live in Japan it was fun to see this fun take on sushi ingredients. No Japanese person would recognize it but I have to say it looked delicious. You cook such a variety of foods.

The vodka does matter in the overall flavor profile of the sauce. I wonder if it’s the recipe you’re using, or maybe the kind of vodka you’re using? It’s like wine… you may not taste the full flavor of the beverage itself, but it lends ‘notes’ to the dish. It’s the same reason people ignore bay leaves in recipes. Most people don’t believe it matters, but they do add a subtle note that is very much missing if you’re used to having the dish with them.

I haven’t made vodka sauce in a while…. Maybe I’ll make some this week. 😊
