Born and raised in South Louisiana. My grandma taught me how to grow cayenne peppers. She had been saving the seeds since her great grandma passed them down. She doesn't speak English well because her family were French immigrants so it was fun to learn some French and garden at the same time lol. I love cayenne because they dry out on the plant in summer so you can basically just pick them and grind them to make spices without even needing to dehydrate them.
I use a Tommee Tippee baby food puree blender that i re purposed for dried herbs and spices. It's like the size of a child's play kitchen food processor but it's great. Has 2 speed settings and a pulse. Once you rotate and unlock the the blender tub, the lid just slides out of the slot in the tub.
Not all of the chilli's i sowed on the 28th Dec survived, so i re sowed them and they are just coming up now.
Fungus gnats are pretty easy to deal with. Bottom watering and a layer of sharp sand on top of the soil. For me that always seem to reduce fungus gnats by close to 100%.
Aphids are a completely different matter though. Pure evil.
Technical question : Shop ceiling lights – held to a metal shelf with cable ties – will it grow plants? Will it burn the house down? No idea how much heat is given out.
My habanero sown January 3 are still about 1 inch with one or two true leaves. Peach habanero only one came up. Jalapeño and sweet peppers are growing great. A year or so ago I started liking habanero sauces with mango so the flavor is worth the heat! Fingers crossed that habaneros get up to transplant size. Here in Texas the heat will stop all my peppers producing so I want early production.
My 🌶️ plants are still producing in the conservatory , ‘ Bishops hat “is a favourite ,just a fruity flavour added too many dishes. I understand that chillies work in the same way as pure dark chocolate on endorphins , giving a feeling of wellbeing. 🤗
Loved the chat. Thanks all

🐝 Thanks for the great chat🌻
For spider mites, neoseiulus cucumeris is a natural predator. I had fought it for 2 years and only neoseiulus cucumeris killed forever.
My Lemon Drop and Cayenne came up nice and strong. I took off the plastic top and all but three just died off 😭

I am trying the habanero white, yellow and orange. Any suggestion?
