My granny and my mom made this same recipe, or at least very close to it. Granny always put black walnuts in hers and mom always put English walnuts in hers. You're so right, it's delicious!! It beats newer fudge recipes all to pieces. As a young mom I learned to make marshmallow fudge, with the stuff in a jar, and it's good but can't hold a candle to this fudge! And we only got it at Christmas!

When I was a kid we made this fudge all the time. Mom, dad and I took turn beating it by hand. When mom added peanut butter she never put nuts in it. We used black walnuts in our fudge. I grew up in Iowa where black walnut trees was everywhere. I now live in Texas so I use pecans in my fudge.

I make the Fantasy Fudge recipe. It turns out perfect every time. It’s pourable right into the dish I use and then sets up nice and firm but creamy! I will say in the most loving way, it was stressing me out seeing the fudge get mixed in the mixer so lonnnnnnnnnng LOL

Weather plays a big part in how the fudge sets up, and evaporation during boiling, I know my sweet spot so it comes out good, make a similar one but it uses real milk, have another version also, it's funny I give the recipe to a lot of people but no one makes it the same, every one makes it different and they all love it. Chocolate is my favorite.

Been making this fudge since I was ten years old. Never saw evaporated milk used. We always used whole milk. We didn’t have a candy thermometer until I was in high school, so always used the cold water test. Still use that to confirm what the thermometer reads! Also, only beat by hand when I was growing up, until I figured out I could use the hand mixer.
I remember when I was in eighth grade taking home ec, the teacher one day (it was a sewing day) said, “Nancy, why don’t you run in the kitchen and whip us up a batch of fudge?” So I did. (It was this recipe.) Guess she knew I was already a cook! 🙄
