I have made my own vanilla now for about 20 years or so. I have never cut the beans. By not cutting them, you preserve the "caviar" in the center. Most times I can use the beans twice. After all my vanilla has been made from the beans, then I cut them open and use the insides to flavor home made applesauce, frostings, etc.

I so appreciate this video and why might surprise you. Hubby and I just bought a new build house in South Korea!! We caught it before the kitchen was installed so I got to customize it! We got to see a neighbors finished kitchen they customized also for a lot of good ideas. Cabinets are now in and most have doors. Drawers are in but the front covers not installed yet. Something’s about neighbors kitchen kept bothering me, but could not pinpoint what. Then I watched this video last night and it hit me!

The cabinet handles and drawers pulls! Mine are similar to yours. Long and stainless. But in neighbors house they installed them ALL horizontal and in the middle, bottom or top of each cabinet door and at the top of each drawer. Oh nooooo.

I grabbed several screen shots as you moved around your kitchen to show my cabinet guy. Door handles HAVE to be vertical and placed just like yours. Drawers pulls, will be horizontal, of course, but have to be in the dead center of each drawer front. Explaining to Korean husband to then explain to Korean cabinet builder(I am not fluent in Korean) was gonna be a crap shoot. Now I have pictures of you cabinets and drawers to show them.

    So THANKS!!

As always your video is sich an inspiration!
When I can fruit for jam I just cook it down to the consistency I like – no sugar or sweetener needed – and then I can. Amazing 😊

Hi, I would just like to add that the advice to persevere includes all areas of life. I'm 57 and just graduated from college 2 years ago. Don't let your life and your timeline deter you if things aren't going as planned. Keep your eye on the prize and the dream in your heart! You will get there!

You are a marvel, Jammerill. You never cease to amaze me with all you accomplish. Your videos are a joy to watch and I never miss one. 💜Here in Florida strawberries are $3 a pound. That's ironic. I've never canned and I'm wondering why you remove the rings from your jars after you can the food?

I used to make homemade vanilla with vodka…which turns out great. But, I mow use Captain Morgan spiced rum. It has a richer flavor. Try it! You'll love it better#

I prefer making my vanilla with bourbon. I just like the flavor better. Maybe it's because I just the taste of bourbon or whiskey and I don't like the taste of vodka.

You don't really NEED to add pectin to a jam, do you?! It doesn't preserve it better or anything, it just makes it thicker. Citric acid, on the other hand, works as a preservative. I love making jams, have been doing it for years! What I do is I basically crush the berries a bit with a potatoe masher, just enough to create a bit of liquid on the bottom of the pan, cook them and then add sugar to taste. I then put the hot jam in glass jars, put on the lid, and if the lid "pops" we're good to go. The jam will keep until next spring basically, although we do usually finish it off it before that. 🙂 Around here we love strawberry & rhubarb jam, raspberry jam and blueberry too. Strawberry on it's own is kind of too sweet for us, but mixed with rhubarb it's a family favorite!
