I learned how to crochet and knit in the third grade! Seriously, in elementary school. I think it was on Fridays as kinda like a "wind down" to the week, we had crafting hour. Even the boys participated. I mostly like to crochet but I do know how to knit a little (only a scarf). It's great you want to learn how to crochet. It's very relaxing and addictive especially when you start to see what you're making take shape and form. I taught my Mom years and years ago when she was living. I started her off with just a simple pot holder which would be perfect for you since you're cooking!
