My mother would have tossed the meat & flour in a heavy paper bag and given it a good shake to dredge the meat, saved cleaning a bowl.
Adding baking soda to the flour is a good idea that I will try out! 😄
    Subbed!

Sweetness do you remember this same stew made with hamburger I went to elementary school in new Mexico and that's what we were served it was so delicious and what you would be served in Mexican restaurants today is what we ate for lunch almost daily I miss those days (between 1970 and 1974)

I roomed with a meatcutter years ago who explained that stew meat is expensive only because of the labor cost of cutting it up and packaging it. Well, I own a knife (that could stand sharpening too) so I never buy it, just roasts like you do.

Thanks for this recipe. I just made it and it is delicious! I cut my own meat also, never thought about that. It looked better than the pre-cut stew meat 🙂 house smells awesome along with the cherry crunch I made. 🙂

I love turnips. I was hoping to see how you processed them. My ma used to cook with them, but she never showed me how she cut them up. I dont know if I am doing it right.

neither one of my husbands hunted or fished. I grew up with my dad doing both. I could not understand a man that didn't do either. They both did other things that made them become my exes though.

Just saw this stew video on TV. It looks so good. I have never used barley but I will try it. As far Mr. Brown fishing, I thought every family in Arkansas had a fishing boat of some type.

I love making stew (with canned, cooked roast beef), dividing it into single servings and freezing it. Yours looks so tasty! Will have to try yours for sure.

I know this is an older video, but I so miss going into shops like this one! We had so many in Washington state, believe it or not. In could spend a whole Saturday going from shop to shop. Now where I live in Texas, it really SUCKS! There was one shop, full of wonderful vendors! I LOVED it…then they shut down. I feel incredibly deprived 🙁 Thank you so much for the flea market tour….♡♡♡

I gave up buying beef, except for hamburger. The cost is outrageous, even here in Texas.

Made this today and homemade cheese biscuits for supper tonight. It turned out deliciously! And would like to add we enjoy watching Mr. Brown working on his wood outside. In the Fall it was my favourite time when we would help Dad get the wood ranked up for the winter. My father had four girls and I was the baby and I think he tried to turn me into a boy. LOL! I went to the woods with him always and even had my own little ax for trimming the fallen trees. I remember this so vividly! Keep sharing these old memories please.
