You guys voted a while back for this Shepherd's pie recipe. I've been making a version of this for over 20 years and it's always a hit. The print recipe and ingredients are linked right in the description. As always thanks for liking and watching our videos. We truly appreciate your support.

I am sorry but what you make is an American adaption of Shepards Pie, the amount of garlic is over the top and the use of stout the shepard would be turning in his grave, Do you think 400 years ago you would have had italian cheese in England ? Sorry this is an American version of Shepards pie, even then consider 20 years ago in America if you used one clove of garlic in a pasta sauce the average american would be shocked, now 20 years later you make every american kitchen smell like a garlic cave.

I find it much easier to chop the potatoes into large chunks before I boil them, so they cook faster and more evenly, and then I mash them with a hand mixer. This was a great video. It's time to make cowboy pie!

Great channel! New subscriber! Looking at your older videos; would it be possible to make a video about what/how to substitute alcohol in previous recipes?

I've been making Shepherds Pie and Cottage Pie for over forty years. I don't have a recipe, because both dishes originated as a way to use up whatever vegetables/leftovers you have, and top it with potatoes to make a filling meal. My "recipe" varies according to what I have in my fridge/pantry, so great this video is a good guide to starting out, but I wouldn't follow this slavishly!

Whenever I make Cottage pie (I'm not a huge fan of lamb) I cut up the potatoes in chunks rather than the whole potato so they cook faster and can assemble everything once it's all cooked. Everyone makes it different depending on what they learned growing up or tried different recipes. I think it's pretty forgiving when it comes to adding things you like and removing others you don't. Those who don't like beer, can leave it out and use whatever stock they prefer for a flavored liquid. This is such a great meal during the colder seasons living in the northeast and my family really loves it. I like to watch different recipes because it's nice to see different ways to make it.

There's been quite a few people from the USA posting Shepherds / Cottage pies on here recently and unfortunately I must say it's one thing that needs to be left to us British.

I will use this to make Cottage Pie since I eat beef not lamb. But otherwise this recipe looks like the perfect thing for my St. Patty’s Day dinner! Perhaps I will buy some extra Guiness!

Sir, you really know your cooking. The last cottage pie I made a few weeks ago turned out dry b/c I added half the beer and drank the rest! (rookie mistake). Also yes to the full tomato paste and the Worsteshire and beef stock. Definitely want a sauce to gravy finish with Cottage and Shepards pie. If it is too dry a person can always whip up a beef gravy or sauce to drizzle or spoon over top of. Of course, with the scoring the kids are going to have to start adding decimals to the numbers, a professional tip. So was it a 9.8 or a 9.1? lol. Big pro difference.
